KS Bill Would Overrule City Gun Laws

That's actually a good thing. Otherwise, you could instantly become a criminal because you didn't know that a specific municipality had stricter gun laws than everywhere else in the state. From the Kansas City Star:

Kansas lawmakers fired back Tuesday at cities and counties that have passed laws restricting where concealed weapons may be carried.

The House endorsed a bill nullifying local laws that go beyond the state law on where permit holders can take their weapons.

Cities such as Roeland Park and Mission passed ordinances prohibiting concealed weapons on city property — including municipal offices and parks. Olathe banned guns at city offices. Leawood restricts concealed weapons in city buildings, greenways and parks.

Those laws would be meaningless if House Bill 2528 passes. The measure is expected to pass a final House vote today before it goes to the Senate.

Lawmakers who pushed for last year’s law permitting concealed weapons said they did not like being second-guessed by local officials. The state law lists 22 places where concealed weapons are prohibited, including schools, bars, courtrooms and private properties that post signs. The list included city halls and libraries, but not parks or other city properties.

By the way, the House version of this bill was sponsored by a Democrat, Candy Ruff.

It should also be noted that this bill only concerns concealed weapons, not other gun laws in the state. Smack that mule! (Read the story for that reference.)

Similar to ALASKA/Anchorage over ccw liscencing.
I am not sure of the particulars as it was ayear or two ago, but Anchorage wanted stricter controls but was overuled by the state legislature

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
