Bloomberg Pushes Pelosi on Gun Control

Trying to ensure that the new Democratic majority in Congress are burdened with the gun control issue, NYC Mayor Michael Blowhard demands that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats address gun control. From the New York Post:

The shooting deaths of two auxiliary cops must spur the Democratic-controlled Congress to pass tougher gun legislation, Mayor Bloomberg said yesterday.

He also called House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday to urge her to act - and said that if she didn't she'd have blood on her hands, the mayor said.

"The Democrats have said repeatedly that they blame the Republicans for no gun legislation," an angry Bloomberg said during his WABC radio show.

"Well, now they're in charge. OK, stand up. And if not, I'm going to tell everybody."

[...]

"Nobody's trying to ban guns," Bloomberg explained yesterday. "That's just so ridiculous an argument. If you get a license, you can have a gun."

Well, that last one is an awfully big "if," Mr. Mayor. Handgun licenses in NY are at the discretion of a local police agency. A law abiding citizen can have a perfectly clean record, no history of mental illness, no restraining orders served upon him, and if the local cop doesn't like the applicant, no license. Blacks, et cetera, need not apply.

And if you want a permit to conceal carry in New York City: Fuggettaboutit!

Of course, it's obscene to even require that law abiding citizens have to beg the government for their rights but that's how it is in NY.

That's the problem with allowing local law enforcement to decide -- abitrarily -- who can and can't buy a gun. It's one thing to run a background check but when that comes back clean, it should be "Shall Issue" and that's that. Forty states have shall issue carry permits. New York doesn't.

Yeah, the NY laws are pretty BS, no matter how many times ignoramuses claim they are "simple."

Here is a link to one example of a stupid journalist who thinks it is a "relatively simple process" to get a pistol permit in upstate NY: link.

Here is the "relatively simple process" they are talking about:
link.

Applying for a permit

(Original Publication: December 10, 2006)

- Applications are filed with the county clerk. The standard fee is $10, with extra fingerprinting charges and possibly other costs.

- County law enforcement does background checks, including a review of FBI and state Criminal Justice Services databases. A mental health check is also done.

- A personal interview is required. Westchester conducts home visits for five or more handguns.

- References are required. Some counties ask for someone else to be responsible for weapons if a permit becomes inactive. Rockland requires other adults in the home to sign off.

- If police are satisfied, they recommend approval.

- The application then goes to a county court judge, who has final say. The judge can require more investigation or an interview, or deny the application despite police approval.

Unless I'm mistaken, weren't the two slain auxiliary cops unarmed? The thugs that killed them, shockingly, didn't seem to care about Bloomberg's war on "illegal" guns.

Lets see now. Don't arm the aux cops. Aux cops get shot. Call Nancy Pelosi. Sit back and open a beer. Feel confident that you have done something great "for the children". Don't tell me that being a big city mayor isn't a tit job. Jack.

"If you get a license, you can have a gun."

Uh-huh. And *IF* I could shit gold bars, I'd be rich.

What a douche.

Bloomberg is a dangerous man.

Without a gun.

Which is where he wants us.

The mayor ought to take the guns away from the cops in new york. At least limit the bullets. Officers there are charged with shooting an unarmed man 50 times. A little bit of overkill? Give them tazers, but even those can kill. Luckily I live in a state that doesn't try very often to step on gun owners rights. I don't have one, but I don't want the right to own one taken away from me.

Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
