WaPo & Guns: A Good Question

From a letter in today's Washington Post:

...as a reader of The Post for almost 40 years, I was not surprised by your vitriolic editorial response to the appeals court ruling on the District's ban on keeping handguns in homes ["Dangerous Ruling," editorial, March 10]. Indeed, I do not recall seeing you take a position endorsing the personal possession of firearms.

I would deeply appreciate The Post taking a clear editorial position on this matter. Do you believe, for example, that personal ownership of handguns, or of all firearms, should be banned? Do you favor restrictions such as requiring owners to place weapons under state control -- for example, at police stations? Do you think that the Second Amendment should be repealed because it is self-evident that a state should be able to raise and equip forces for its own defense?

The letter writer says he is not a DC resident or a member of the NRA, or even a hunter. It's obvious, though, that he'd like the Washington Post to just come out and admit that the editors and journalists are biased against private ownership of firearms. I'd like to see such a confession, too. Of course, it will never happen. . .

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
