March 17, 2007George Will Warns Dems on Gun ControlBy the way, Will is not an ardent supporter of gun rights as indicated in some of his previous columns. Anyway, in today's, he writes:
I've warned Dems, too, about reviving their lust for gun control. Alas, they don't listen to me and millions of others like me. That they would just covet all of the Bill of Rights instead of just select parts, they could be the party in power for decades to come. Wait! Not sure I want that so... Never mind! Look at what happened this week next door to you. A Democrat state senator in NH proposed a law that would have moved NH gun laws one step closer to Massachusetts' discretionary licensing, giving police chiefs the power to deny pistol licenses on a whim. Start here. Bottom line - the Senate Judiciary Committee (3 Dems, 2 Repub's) voted 5-0 to "ITL" the bill (Inexpedient to Legislate). The hearing saw hundreds of gun owners descend on the State House to show their opposition. Gun control = political suicide in the Live Free of Die state, even with a Dem. majority. Posted by: countertop at March 17, 2007 12:27 PMI don't think it matters what the founding fathers wanted, because we have a right to self-defense regardless. Posted by: Safety Scott at March 17, 2007 01:47 PMWhat this boils down to is the LACK of common sense that legislators and judges display when those that claim - you have a right until I say otherwise. This is pure folly. And will only result in destroying our civilization. Apparently George Will doesn't know his Constitutional history very well. The original Bill of Rights as submitted for ratification had 12 amendments, the first two of which dealt with the organization, makeup and operation of Congress. Apparently, the First Amendment was originally submitted as three separate amendments numbered 15, 16 and 20(!). So, even the Bill of Rights was not originally carved in stone... the comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
