March 12, 2007IL: Bill to Ban Internet "Hunting"I'm not into bans but if someone really thinks that targeting a deer with a joystick from a hundred miles away is "hunting" then they need their head examined. From the Daily Herald (IL):
Ever since an entrepreneur started offering the service a few years ago, quite a few states have moved to ban the practice. In chronological order, I've covered the subject Here (the original story) and a follow up here and still more, here. Many parks that allow hunting are also wheelchair accessible. My problem with bans is that once you ban one thing, lawmakers never stop at just that one thing... Comments
Hi Jeff, Gotta say though, the thought of shooting a critter over the net gives me a shiver down my back. I might be getting too much middle age spread (it comes in a small screw top jar) but the joy of hunting (for me)is being out in the woods and fields with a rifle, hearing the bird song, listening to the breeze in the branches and the smell of leaves, grass etc. Yes I enjoy the adrenaline surge when I see the critter i'm after and the concentration of getting a safe and accurate shot off. over the net. It wouldn't be the same. for me anyway...
Disgusting. It would be a cool way to fight a war, though. Posted by: bird dog at March 12, 2007 08:44 AMI thought that the original place that claimed to be offering it turned out to be a hoax. It would be an effective way to fight a war... but i can think of some scumbags who I would love to give the oportunity and buzz of experiencing a close up and dirty fire fight. hopefully followed by the oportunity of stopping a bullet.... Posted by: Keith at March 12, 2007 10:26 AMHunting deer with a .22? Yeah, some people might use a .22-250 for hunting deer, but even that's a bit light. But just saying ".22" evokes an image of a rimfire round, which is totally inappropriate. Something's wrong with the story. By the way, your blog does not render well in my IE 7. It peters out after a few posts, and will not render the rest of the posts, and virtually none of the links work. I have to grab the source and pull the links out of that if I want to follow a link. (That includes the posting links, too. I couldn't post this otherwise.) Jeff, the comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
