Gun Control: Love It or Leave It

Just to show how simpletons think, here's part of a letter to the Philadelphia Daily News:

Why do Americans need handguns anyway? In the old days, it was so one could bear arms against a tyrant. Today, some Americans claim they need this instrument of death for self-defense in the normal course of living. But that's why we have a police force.

I guess America is a bad and dangerous place. And the terrorists and enemies of America are right when they say we are bad and terrible people.

Could it be that these handgun-toting Americans agree with the terrorists and enemies of America that, in fact, we are a bad and terrible people, and that America is a dangerous place? Why are we scared to trample on the rights of handgun-toting Americans?

But Americans are good people, America is a good place, there is no need for handguns here.

We used to say, "Love it or leave it," so if you think this is a dangerous country, go ahead and go where it's safer and the people are better. But don't make the rest of us jump through hoops.

The writer, Rick Jones, is from Philadelphia, a city with a rising murder rate caused by street and drug gangs out of control. Apparently the police there haven't been able to protect the "good people" from the "bad and terrible people."

Let's make this the open forum for the day... Jones obviously doesn't believe in democracy or that people should have a say -- through their elected leaders -- on what laws are passed regarding gun control. We should all just give up our handguns or we should just leave the country. What an idiot!

"Why do Americans need handguns anyway?"

I'll let this story about one of his neighbors speak for itself.

You don't have to leave to be safe. Where would you go go anyway? Canada? Australia? UK? I pack on a daily basis and feel pretty safe here. Guys like Rick don't fear the power of the gun. They fear the SPIRIT of the free man holding it. But we know that already. Jack.

How does being a victim and kissing your ass goodbye require jumping through hoops? Perhaps Rick Jones could supply a video clip to clear up this confusing statement.

Wow. I don't know what to say. Wow. My first thought when I read that letter, was that it had to written by a pro-gun guy trying to make anti-gun people look ridculous. That is the most ridiculous letter I've ever read. What a loon! We don't need handguns because we have the police? I don't think this guy really lives in Philly. He lives someplace where it rains gumdrops while he rides his unicorn through streets of gold.

America is a dangerous place

The guy's an idiot. The world is a dangerous place. Always has been, always will be. The only defense you have in a dangerous world is to be dangerous yourself.

---------
"But you speak of him as if he was a friend. I thought Fangorn was dangerous."

"Dangerous!" Gandalf cried. "And so am I --
very dangerous, more dangerous than anything you will ever meet, unless you are brought alive before the seat of the Dark Lord. And Aragorn is dangerous, and Legolas is dangerous. You are beset with dangers, Gimli son of Gloin, for you are dangerous yourself, in your own way."

Personal responsibility. It's that simple, yet it is a concept foriegn to the left which think the government will do everything for them. Each of us can do our part by explaining to our children that the police are not "there to protect us" like we were all told in grade school. The police are only there to catch the bad guys (sometimes), almost always after a crime has been committed. We are each responsible for ourselves and our own families. My 7 year old understands this concept, and I only explained it to her once. If this clown chooses to not be prepared, that is fine too, this is America, an we all have the right to be stupid if we want.

So good people should have no interest in defending innocent life? And since when are the police able to stop every crime before anyone gets hurt?

There's nothing evil or 'bad' or harmful about owning a gun unless you misuse it.

But that's why we have a police force.
I'd be surprised if Mr. Jones can eat his morning breakfast without drooling.

New Orleans and a hurricane come to mind as a recent example that even a simpleton should be able to understand.

Hold it. The reason for the bill of rights is to protect the individual from the tyranny of the majority. Are you saying the tyranny of the majority is OK? Snot!
