Another Idiot on Gun Rights

I doubt an editorial such as that written by William A. Collins would appear in a West Texas newspaper but it's not such a surprise that it sees light in the East Texas Review:

...Guns facilitate murder and mayhem, but by golly, no one’s going to take mine away from me. They’ll have to pry it from my cold dead hand…and so forth. Our granddaddies needed them to fight off Indians, foreign invaders, wild beasts, Yankees, Rebs, rustlers, and each other. Even the Constitution gives us the right to own them. OK, so maybe you’re supposed to be in the National Guard –- which many say is the modern equivalent for the “well-regulated militia” that the Constitution mentions –- but you get the idea.

Plainly, the macho, the fearful, and the dealers constitute a potent lobby. Far from prohibiting handguns, Congress and our General Assembly can’t even pass serious control legislation. Many crooks do get pinched for gun law violations, but by then it’s too late. They already used them. The sources of this social disaster are the respectable makers, dealers, and owners who want to fend off any curtailing of their God-given right.

The common result of this fixation is tragedy. In the end, guns don’t kill people…gun lobbyists do.

Read the whole thing only if you haven't eaten breakfast yet. There's enough misinformation in it for a seminar on the failure of our educational system.

As a British ex-pat now living in Texas I've seen both sides of the coin. Gun control DOES NOT WORK!! Why can't these boondogglers get it through their thick skulls? If they hate guns so much they should go live in Washington DC or Great Britain for a while. They'll soon realize that criminals don't follow the laws - that's why they're criminals DUH!
Even the liberal biased British press are beginning to admit the laws have been a complete utter miserable failure:

Why the slam of East Texas? We love freedom as much as they do west of I-35. If there are more leftist idiots on my side of our great state, I'd argue it's solely due to the fact that it's simply the more populous side.

If the United States is so safe why then is there so many murders, roberys,childabductions and so many other crimes done to the law biding americans. And we don't protect ourselfs who will
the police? I think not, unless we have one in every house hold in america. the truth is that the police want to keep us safe but theres to much crime and the govement tie there hands with rules and regs that the bleeding harts put in our laws. they preach tolerance, but the same people that want us to put our guns down have never lived though the horror a victim of a crime has had to live with. tolerance don't mean much to a murdered, raped or beat to an inch of there life, victim. and thousands of new victims are made each day. thanks to our tolerance and laxed prisons rules. we must not make our crimals feel like a victims or they mite protest crulty and harsh condions and want to sue us. well good work lib's for protecting the crimals right to hurt us. and for takeing away the true americans right to protect them selfs.

Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
