Gun Control a Big Election Issue

That's according to this poll:

One-third of voters take issue with a presidential candidate who supports gun control or has been married three times like Rudy Giuliani, a new Time magazine poll shows.

The numbers indicate potential potholes for the current Republican front-runner as his bid for president kicks into gear.

According to the survey, 30 percent couldn't back a candidate who favors gun control, while another 35 percent have trouble with someone with three marriages.

You know, if the leftist Democrats would release their stranglehold on the primary process, and if the media would stop annointing Hillary or Obama as the slam-dunk winners of the Democratic primary...

I'd really like to see the Dems nominate Gov. Bill Richardson who strikes me as a likable candidate who supports gun rights and has foreign policy experience. He's the only Democrat announced so far that I would consider voting for and if his opponent in 2008 was Giuliani or McCain, Richardson would probably get my vote.

When 30% of the voting electorate indicates that they wouldn't vote for a pro-gun-control candidate, Dems ought to sit up and take notice. They'd also better scuttle gun control legislation by McCarthy and others in the run-up to the election or us (in that 30%) won't vote for a Dem no matter who they run.

I really wish Kos and Atrios and other lefties would get on the bandwagon of supporting all of the Bill of Rights as the framers intended them to be interpreted and stop ignoring the 2nd item on the list. They could exhert a big influence on what the Dems do.

As for the Republicans, well, I've already discounted the big three who are running and some of their minor candidates are just too far to the right for me to pull the lever for them. Brownback is an example.

Bill Richardson? A quick glance at his issues statements leads me to believe that the _only_ thing I would agree with him on is 2A rights.

Wants to cut and run in Iraq, A firm believer in Global Warming, a big fan of public education, health care for all, and 'comprehensive immigration reform' (from someone of Hispanic heritage).

I'm with you on the sentiment... the front-runners from both parties leave much to be desired.

Take a look at Duncan Hunter. He's the only candidate so far that I could get excited about.

Pat Poulsen is looking better all the time.

So, why haven't the bigger papers picked up on this one?

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
