McNanny State

Granted that England is already a complete "Nanny State" but it looks like Prince Charles isn't satisfied yet. While he was making the remark at a nutrition center in the United Arab Emirates, it's clear that he would probably like to apply his fascist rule over England if it weren't for the pesky Parliament. From the AP:

Prince Charles suggested Tuesday on a visit to the United Arab Emirates that banning McDonald's fast food was crucial for improving people's diets, a British news agency reported.

Charles made the comments while visiting the Imperial College London Diabetes Center in Abu Dhabi for the launch of a public health campaign, The Press Association reported.

"Have you got anywhere with McDonald's? Have you tried getting it banned? That's the key," Charles was quoted as asking one of the center's nutritionists.

Too bad he wasn't in the car. Come to think of it, too bad Mayor Bloomberg (who banned trans-fats in NYC) and others of that fascist ilk weren't in it, either.

More and more I find myself not caring what happens to the crap politicians, senators, congress critters, mayors, governors, et al, who insist on protecting us all from ourselves and sucking the life out of living and free will. Where's that flesh-eating disease or a timely heart attack when you need it to preserve freedom and liberty? They should all just go die of something and leave us be.

(Yes, I'm in a really charming mood this morning...)

I worry though, Jeff, that it's going to start getting to that point. Most of us are willing to let the democratic process have a chance to change things, but with things like gerrymandering and the free-speech killing McCain Feingold act, I can see where some people are going to feeling they have no recourse.

I hope not though. I really do.

I used to think that Charles was an ijit who did not know how or when to keep his mouth shut.

After all, he admitted to talking to his plants (whether or not oon equal terms, I don't know)...

I now think he is well meaning (better to speak out against a perceived wrong than to stay shut up for popularity sake) and though probably pretty bright, he is far outclassed by the politicians, and appears dumb.

Yes, I hate all dog burger stores with a passion (if it was good beef, why'd they mince it so fine? let's face it, it's the bits of an animal you wouldn't normally feed your cat on)but the market decides, and if people are willing to spend their hard earned on shite (R) (TM) (C) in a roll.... so be it.

What Prince Charles thinks and says is about as important as what Barbra Streisand thinks and says and as dumb. At least our celebrities aren't inbred imbeciles.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
