February 26, 2007A Liberal Looks at the Zumbo AffairWriting in the Blue Oregon, Jeff Alworth says:
Actually, the NRA came late to the party. It wasn't some huge organized "coalition" but rather firearms enthusiasts in their own blogs, or by posting comments on the Outdoor Life site that created the groundswell of opposition to Zumbo's inane comments. And why not? Zumbo betrayed all of us who know that there IS NO SUCH THING as an "assault weapon" when you get beyond the cosmetics. All semi-automatics function pretty much the same and "automatics" isn't even an issue because they're not covered by the silly AWB and have their own, far more stringent regulations for ownership. Further, why shouldn't there be "vehemence" in response to someone who had been trusted by millions of readers? Let me use an analogy: If Patricia Ireland -- out of the blue -- wrote that maybe some abortions should be banned, you know, late term, etc., or that perhaps there are some jobs women shouldn't do, I'm pretty sure that liberals, NOW, and NARAL members would rise up in outrage against her. And from their standpoint, that outrage would be justified. Ireland would have betrayed them. We in the firearms enthusiasts and hunting groups have been similarly double-crossed by Judas Zumbo. There's always a price to pay and he has. By the way, most of the comments following the post really take Alworth to task and make for good reading. Comments
I wonder what would have happened if he had attacked the "right to abortion?" Posted by: bill at February 26, 2007 09:03 AMHaving fun in those comments, myself. Thanks for the pointer. .38 special "Cop Killer" bullets that penetrate body armor? I didn't know I could buy those! What a maroon. Zumbo simply hit the hot button of ten million people. The fact that they didn't like what he wrote was not co-ordination but anger. Dem......lib.....commies seem to be unable to understand that some of us on the right share the same outlook independently of each other, projecting their own need to be led by the nose. If he pulled his head out of his as..... the sand long enough to look, he'd see that there was simply not enough time to Co-ordinate anything, it was a spontaneous reaction. Zumbo's goose was dripping hot, savory gravy within a few short hours, far too little time for an organized effort. Not only that, but the vaunted NRA, that 4 million strong juggernaut was the last to stumble out of the gate. As usual. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
