February 26, 2007UK Writer Recants on Gun BanWell, sort of. A Scottish journalist who won awards for his coverage of the Dunblane massacre and called for a ban on all handguns in the British Isles has second thoughts:
Mr. Bell still isn't entirely convinced but he concedes:
It's kind of rambling but what I think he's trying to say by the end is that he made a mistake, that banning handguns did nothing to address the problem of why people kill or to prevent the criminal element from obtaining handguns anyway. He doesn't quite reach the conclusion, or at least say that he has, that maybe the law abiding should be able to protect themselves, but it's clear that he now believes that gun bans don't work. The fact that he is questioning the religious fervor of banning weapons is encouraging. How many do we have on our side of the pond, that would use the same observations to prove that the bans weren't draconian enough. I believe this man may grow up. The rest still seem to think that sending my P38 and Ruger MK1 to the melting pot made Britain a safe place. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
