February 24, 2007Vermont to Tax Heating Fuel?Want to know just how Vermont liberals think? In an effort to show that Vermont is "concerned" about global warning, Senate President Pro Tempore Peter Shumlin -- someone I used to respect -- has, along with his corrupt cronies, decided to tax home heating fuel. Even the Hanoi Free Press finds it a bad idea:
You know, an argument could almost be made to increase the gas tax as a way to encourage people to buy more fuel efficient automobiles. I don't agree with that because most people need their vehicles to get to and from work, or use them for work. And let's face it, in a rural state like this, there is no mass transit as an alternative. But heating oil? Staying warm in the Winter is not an option, it's a requirement for living in the state. Heating oil (and LP for that matter) are already at near record highs and short of tearing down all the big 100-year-old farmhouses in the state, there isn't much that homeowners can do about their heating bills. Sure, a bit of insulation here, better windows there. The fact remains that most can't afford to do even that, much less bear a (estimated five cents a gallon) heating oil tax. But as always, in Vermont and elsewhere, for Democrats it's all about figuring out new ways to bleed the average citizen with more and greater taxes. My landlord has told me quite bluntly that the reason my rent went up the last two years is because of the cost of heating the building I live in. I'm already paying almost half my salery for the roof over my head. I used to think Shumlin was a pretty good guy. Now I think he's just another tax-and-spend creep in the State House. As President Reagan used to say, "Government isn't the solution. Government is the problem." No doubt all the limo-liberals that move to Vermont to live the "country lifestyle" in their new 6,000 square foot homes will embrace this new tax in order to show how they're "doing something" for the planet. Brilliant Idea! Now all the Vermonters can go back to buring firewood. That ought to please all the man-made GW churchgoers! Posted by: Ron at February 24, 2007 12:37 PMoh so right, just like oregon wanting to tax people on how many miles they drive, last i checked the poorer you are the further away from work you live.I commute 84 miles one way to work!New hampshire passed the no smoking ban in bars, must be all the liberal vomit seeping out of nyc to the "country"turning once fairly free area's into thier police style states! Posted by: straightarrow at February 25, 2007 01:23 AMWhile we're at it, let's tax food to stop the obesity epedemic. What @$$h0les. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
