Throwing Bogus Gun Statistics Around

From the Philadelphia Daily News, a crock of shit:

In 2004, Pennsylvania led the nation in the homicide rate among black victims: 29.5 per 100,000. Handguns were used in 81 percent of the killings. From 2004 to 2005, gun crime in the nation shot up 49.4 percent, according to a report by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. From 1996 to 2005, almost 5.9 million people were victims of gun violence, the report said.

I can't comment on the homicide rate among blacks -- though maybe there's something desperately wrong with black culture if that statistic is true. But I'd love to see these "reports" from the Brady Bunch that actually show that gun crime is up almost 50% in one year and just what were almost six million people victims of? Were they all shot by guns? Whose statistics is the Brady Bunch even quoting? I browsed their site and didn't find these supposed "reports." Maybe they were simply shill press releases...

Unfortunately, Jeff, the stat given for black homicide victims seems in line with what I've seen elsewhere.

To shamelessly steal another bloggers thought, if availabilty of guns were the cause of all this mayhem and murder, wouldn't white on white crime rates be as high as black on black?

I can't remember which blog I found that on or I'd give them due credit. Sorry.

I think I found what the reporter or the Bradies mangled - the percentage of violent nonfatal "incidents" involving firearms looks like it increased 50% from around 6 to around 9 percent from 04 to 05.

Jeff, the idea of selective Second Amendment freedom based on race really ticks me off, and I thank you for pointing out a local horror story that I missed.
