February 19, 2007Inane Gun Bill in ColoradoSomehow I've never thought of Denver, Colorado as a hotbed of drive-by shootings but if it is, this legislation won't do a thing to lessen it:
I'm sure all the gang members and thugs and other mutants will instantly obey any such new law. Of course, if it's a good idea for big cities, why not for little ones? And what happens when a law-abiding citizen from a small town, gun in glovebox, has to drive through Denver to get someplace else? Are they now, suddenly, criminals themselves? See, that's the problem with allowing individual municipalities to make up their own, more restrictive firearms ordinances. State laws should apply and be the final say-so everywhere in the state. If Judd has a crime problem in his district, he should go after the criminals, not the law abiding folks. Comments
I don't suppose that a simple ban on road rage and drive by shooting would be a good alternative? Jack. Posted by: Jack Lorenz at February 19, 2007 09:22 AMAnd what happens when a law-abiding citizen from a small town, gun in glovebox, has to drive through Denver to get someplace else? Are they now, suddenly, criminals themselves? That's exactlly what happens. Colorado tried to pass a law that made it so everyone was on the same page, you couldn't make more restrictive laws than the state had, but Denver has a "home rule" government and the libtard judges have said that it allows them to make their own laws that supercede the states. I'm technically breaking the law when I drive through Denver with my AR in the trunk. Yup, but the main point is that if you've already got criminal intent to do a drive-by, you're not going to pay any attention to this law...only the law abiding will be punished. If the cops want a reason to arrest someone driving around, they need...ta-da...probable cause, not another law that prevents folks from defending against a car-jacking or rape attempt. Posted by: doug in colorado at February 19, 2007 10:46 AMMan, oh, man, Colorado is now beginning to fully reap the results of the Californian influx that's happened over the last 15 years. It's simply disgusting that people who've moved here from Cali to get away from the lib/soc mess they've created bring the same politics with them, ready to soil a new area. What morons. (Note: If you are from California and you moved to Colorado to breathe free and unfettered, and you left leftist politics behind, please disregard the above tirade. If, however, you brought your lib/soc politics with you, please educate yourself on why this was such an attractive state for you to move to in the first place--more relative freedom--and then change or go home.) Jeff, Brass has it right. Denver (and LaLaLand Boulder, among others) have had extreme laws concerning firearms in your car. The state law let you have a firearm in the car, out of sight and not readily available, but Denver didn't like it. I know police officers who wouldn't carry in Denver if they weren't in uniform. Denver fought the new concealed carry laws - they want to set their own laws. And, so far, the courts are going their way. Circumstances require me to be within Denver city lines about twice a week, and I try not to offend the police. [Police in Colorado, in any jurisdiction, are not supposed to access concealed carry lists on a routine stop, but some are and are harrassing the permit-holder. The Colorado State Shooting Association has asked that you contact them should this happen to you.] I'm looking at Ohio or PA for retirement in '08. Posted by: OldeForce at February 20, 2007 01:32 AMBut going after real criminals is so hard. It's much easier to just write a feel-good do-nothing law that no cop is really going to use unless you happen to get stopped for speeding or something. I mean, really, what the eff is wrong with these people! Posted by: joated at February 20, 2007 05:57 PMActually one of Colorado’s problems is that you have imported the Californians and their problems (or perceived problems). These f—ls will now begin instituting the same level of stupidity that is currently in effect in California. That is they will continue to write laws, while refusing to actually prosecute those people, that ignore the quite sufficient laws that were in effect about the time Colorado actually became a state. You might want to consider renaming the state Calafordo. Good luck! Posted by: OldnFat at February 20, 2007 08:18 PMI have lived in Colorado more than 30 years ago. It is not fair to blame all their troubles on the influx of Californians. This is not a defense of Californians. But ever since I spent a considerable amount of time there, I have always said that Colorado was settled by those too weak and undisciplined to make the trek all the way to the west coast. They were weak and submissive a long time before the recent California influx. Posted by: straightarrow at February 21, 2007 02:50 AMDenver has long considered itself exempt from the state, and sometimes even the federal constitution. Currently the state preemption law compells them to live like the rest of us. the comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome.
