Bwahahaha on Bloomberg

(Via Glenn) It seems NYC Mayor Michael Blowhard is sucking wind:

In a stern rebuke to the city's high-profile crusade against illegal guns, the feds warned the Bloomberg administration that it could face "potential legal liabilities" if it continues to conduct sting operations that fall within the jurisdiction of federal agents.

[...]

According to a letter sent to City Hall, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and various U.S. attorneys' offices have determined the city's findings against the 15 dealers "do not rise to a level that would support a criminal prosecution."

The letter - sent Tuesday by Michael Battle, director of the executive office for United States Attorneys at the Department of Justice - also scolded City Hall for engaging in sting operations involving persons "without proper law enforcement authority," saying that could put the city in legal jeopardy. Battle added that City Hall could "unintentionally interrupt or jeopardize" criminal probes.

There are calls to investigate Bloomberg as I reported a few weeks ago but I doubt anything will come of that.

The fact is, though, this doesn't let the dealers Bloomberg is accusing off the hook. Some have already "settled" under threats of extortion from the city's lawyers. Others could have civil suits filed against them by the city. Yes, there's the "Protection of lawful commerce...act" but it does have the "negligence" loophole allowing some suits to proceed. The question is, if Bloomberg and his investigators conducted or collected their "evidence" through illegal means, can that be admitted into a civil court of law? Now that I think about it, probably not. But, the city could still cost these dealers a lot of money in legal fees just fighting back and some of these dealers don't have much in the way of legal funds and would wind-up "settling" just to be done with it.

It's unfortunate that we in America are subject to the illegal activities of a piece of crap like Bloomberg. I sure hope he doesn't get hit by a city bus...

Don't give up on the dealers who understand what it means to fight for what is right and don't give up on the ATF to do their job. Would you have thought a week ago, NYC would be reading such a letter from the Justice Department. Keep the faith!

The gun community may feel vindicated by the tardy ATF response, but I doubt if Bloomberg or his minions are losing much sleep. The PR value of sanctimonius gun control grandstanding is a powerful narcotic for all politicians.

supposedly now the Bloomberg troops are cruising Florida as they did Virginia. I hope the Fla call the cops right off.

Why hasn't Bloomberg been booked into jail and arraigned for the felonies he has committed? A "do better" letter just doesn't get it.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
