One Gun Per Month in WV?

Thanks to reader Boyd G. for the pointer. In West Virginia, they're trying once again for a one-gun-per-month law. From the Charleston Gazette:

When Charleston enacted a one-pistol-per-month purchase limit to prevent out-of-state drug dealers from buying trunkloads of cheap guns here, the Legislature passed a law forbidding any other West Virginia city to have such a lifesaving plan.

The right-to-bear-arms mantra reigns supreme under the gold dome. As a result, thousands of West Virginians carry loaded pistols, and gun murders fill the news. Dope dealers bring their narcotics to this state, knowing they can use their drug profits to buy large numbers of pistols for resale to street gangs in big cities.

To curb the drugs-for-guns trade, Virginia limited pistol purchases to one per month in 1993. Apparently this diverted dope peddlers to the Mountain State. Federal agents reported that the number of West Virginia-purchased guns used in crimes around the country nearly tripled by 1998.

The editorial goes on to mention a local legislator who has introduced a bill to limit handgun sales statewide to one per month.

If they're really interested in curbing the "drugs-for-guns trade" maybe they should make drugs illegal. OH! SILLY ME! The drugs they're talking about already ARE illegal. So how's that war going? Why would criminals obey gun laws if they're ignoring drug laws?

Besides, are these out-of-staters really, legally buying handguns from gun dealers? I thought you could only take legal possession (transfer) of a handgun from a dealer within your own state. Besides, most mutants steal or buy stolen guns.

Ah well, that doesn't stop this newspaper from deciding that something should be done about legal gun purchases rather than illegal drug sales...

For those in West Virginia who would like to get involved in fighting this, Boyd also sent me a link to the newly formed West Virginia Citizens Defense League.

I've got a good friend that lives in WV. The problem isn't so much that WV has become a haven for crime, but rather it's on the direct overland for the drug corridor that runs into DC.

Maybe if more West Virginians were carrying firearms - and using them on drug runners - there would be less of a problem.

I don't know so much about one gun a month, but I have decided to take advantage of that big ass gunshow loophole, I am going to buy an M1 Abrams and an F-16 at the next gunshow. Hey anybody know anything about ICBM's,? I bet we can get them at a gunshow, probably a limit, like, one a month or so.

Solution - legalize drugs... and guns! :)

How about the same type regulation of the first amendment? All politicians would be limited to one word a month.

Hell, Biden would explode, the BATF****Everybody would then have to invade his widow's home, kill their pets and abuse every occupant in their search for bomb making materials. I doubt, any of the thugs in the agency would really be able to tell the difference between bomb explosion and bombastic explosion.

Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
