January 26, 2007NY Rag Makes ExcusesThe (NY) Journal News is one of those newspapers suitable only for wiping one's butt or picking up dog poop. Last month they published on their website a list of NY pistol permit holders in a couple counties. I wrote about it here. I suppose, like a few other newspapers around the country, the editors exert their leftist, liberal anti-gun slant by trying to . . .what? Embarrass or harass permit holders? To "warn" their neighbors? Of course, all it really does is provide a shopping list for criminals who want to break into an unoccupied home to steal guns since that is the source for most illegal guns on the street. Today they glibly report on how unhappy many permit holders are with the rag. And right beside the article, there are the links to the lists of permit holders. Short of the editors contracting some fatal disease, it would seem that the only way to get the newsrag to change it's ways is for some privacy legislation to move through the NY Statehouse:
I can't find anything about their efforts yet on the NYSRPA website or their their blog but I'm sure you can get in touch with them to find out who to write to or email to speed things along. Posted by Jeff Soyer at January 26, 2007 07:39 AM Comments
Legislative information is in the bi-weekly Legislative Report, but we don't have a bill to change state law regarding FOILing pistol license lists. This whole thing is a set up by the Urinal News to promote NYC gun control first in Westchester, then the rest of the state. Posted by: Jacob at January 26, 2007 10:42 AMWell, there's always the old trick of publishing *their* personal info. This really is amazing. At least they don't make their addresses available. I do notice that it's a Gannett newspaper. Why does this not surprise me? Posted by: The Raging Patriot at January 26, 2007 12:20 PMIsn't it funny how so few criminals get their guns from gunshows and liberals want to shut them down yet so many criminals steal their guns and the left is helping them do it? Posted by: Mister_V at January 26, 2007 01:14 PMhttp://www.nysrpa.org/contact.htm It's easy to contact NYSRPA The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Phone: 518-272-2654 or 800-469-7772 Actually, some good comes of posting the names of permit holders in states like NY, where issue of a pistol permit depends on the whims of the authorities. It helps us make our case that such permits inevitably go to the rich, the white, the male and the politically-connected. I recall that every time one of the NYC papers published the names of pistol permit holders in the Big Apple, we saw a whole lot of wealthy celebrities. On the other hand, in a "shall-issue" jurisdiction like Texas, posting a list of permit holders is superfluous - anyone who meets the requirements to get a permit can be presumed to own and carry a handgun. That's a lot of folks! Posted by: Andy Frechtling at January 28, 2007 06:52 AMthe comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
