WaPo: NRA Has Nothing to Fear

Well, certainly not by WaPo's biased standards:

In lobbying, a threat is good for business, whether it's genuine or not.

This might help to explain the dire warnings being issued by the National Rifle Association as the Democrats prepare to take control of Congress this week.

"The new leadership could be one of the most unfriendly to the National Rifle Association," declared Andrew Arulanandam, spokesman for the NRA. "If there's an effort to pursue gun control, we will mount an active defense."

[...]

The only problem: No one expects gun legislation this year.

That's easy for the writer of this nonsense, Jeffrey H. Birmbaum to say and yes, I've had some posts here quoting a few Democrats to that effect saying the same thing. But the fact remains that when the party of "the common good" assumes power today, and finishes their "100-hour" agenda, party leaders -- that would be the Schumers, Kennedys, Feinsteins, Kerrys, et al -- are going to be looking to advance their private agendas and most of their agendas include gun control.

But that's even besides the point of the bias in this article. Birnbaum says that the NRA is simply trying to capitalize on "fear" and "dire threats" to raise money.

We all know that the Brady Bunch and the Violence Policy Center would NEVER resort to fear in their fundraising efforts. Neither would the pro-abortion lobby, or the American Bar Association, or AARP, or... -- Did somebody say "the environmental movement" and the global warming crowd? But the liberal likes of Birnbaum will never write about any paranoia on the part of those groups.

Of course the fact that "no one is expecting gun legislation this year" is, imho an excellent reason to be prepared for it this year. Politicians, and not just liberals, know controversial legislation is best sprung on a public unawares.

Agreed! Just a note to any of your readers: If your not currently a member of the NRA and are a gun owner, Join now! This could be a very ugly year for your 2nd Amendment rights! $25 is little to nothing to ask for you to support the only pro-2nd group in Washington that has ANY pull!

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
