December 11, 2006Barack Obama For Pres? Not if my vote or voice here has anything to do with it. Obama is one of the most anti-Second Amendment legislators in the country. In his short time in in the Senate he's managed to vote FOR almost every single gun control measure that has come his way. Gun Law News has a round-up of Obama's votes and you'll notice that only in 2006 did he finally vote yea on a gun right -- that of prohibiting firearm confiscations during an emergency -- and that probably because he was trying to "moderate" his position as his name gets bandied about by the liberal loving media. More than that, this is a guy who doesn't believe that law abiding people have the right to own most handguns but it goes even further than that. According to On the Issues he would:
Ban all sales or transfers of any semi-automatic firearm? That's very nearly all of them. We'd be left with some shotguns, bolt-actions, and lever guns. Now this is important because even ignoring four million NRA members, you have millions more who don't support the NRA but do own semi-automatic guns. Tens of millions if you want to know the truth. Do any of you Democrats really think these multi-millions of semi-automatic owners would vote for a guy who has stated that their guns should be banned or at least should no longer be sold or transferred? Some gun owner dies of old age and the family has to turn those guns in to the authorities? Someone needs money and can't sell his guns to a gun dealer? Your common .22 plinkers now yanked from store shelves? I guarantee that there is NO WAY someone who wants to ban all semi-automatics is going to get elected because there is NO WAY for him or her to overcome a voting block of 10-30 million semi-automatic firearms owners. Dream on, liberals... Update: Lest any new readers think I'm being selective in rejecting Obama over this issue, note that I have also dismissed Rudy Giuliani and last Summer I wrote regarding Hillary and McCain:

Wouldn't "all semiautomatic weapons" include most pistols? Posted by: Rick C at December 11, 2006 09:39 AMAs an Illinoisan, I look forward to not voting for this asshole in the future. Posted by: gudis at December 11, 2006 09:40 AMPretty much, Rick. That's what is so disturbing, not just that he hates handguns -- lots of pols do and call for their outlaw but this guy would ban almost every rifle as well. He just flat out hates guns. Posted by: Jeff Soyer at December 11, 2006 10:02 AMBarak serves a great purpose in the democratic party: Making Hillary look palatable to "us". Posted by: Leo at December 11, 2006 10:03 AMI must admit I am impressed. You dont like obama and that is your perogative...Im impressed because its not because of his race. That is hopeful. I hope others who disagree with him do it on the issues and leave race out of it. Thanks for the impression. Posted by: Not a regular at December 11, 2006 03:14 PMOdd. I've never seen anyone dislike Obama because of his race, rather than his politics. Posted by: Sigivald at December 11, 2006 03:24 PMI wish I held your opinion Jeff, but I have learned never to underestimate the outright stupidity and piss poor memory of the American voter. Most of them think all the onerous liberty stifling laws are for those "other" people. Never realizing that to the people that pass these laws we "are" those other people. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
