Pro-Gunners Speak Out at Huffington Post

Brady Bunch president Paul Helmke has a post at Huffington Post about gun control and says:

I've been involved with politics all my life, served as Mayor of Fort Wayne, Indiana for twelve years, been the Republican nominee for United States Senator in Indiana, and now, after four months as head of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, I'm at a loss why some pundits and elected officials consider common sense measures to reduce gun violence as "wedge issues" too controversial to be considered by the new Congress.

Read the whole thing because he has the usual litany of drivel about banning so-called "assault weapons" and so forth. Actually, you should read the comments because quite a few of the commenters take Helmke to task with some very astute comments. The pro-gun side is well represented and I believe that most of them (the posters of those comments) are Democrats or at least voted Democratic.

Amid all the pro and con arguments there are some important grains of truth that go to the heart of any Democrat agenda:

"Please, Democrats, leave this dead horse buried. Besides being a death wish issue, the Dems need to get rid of laws against things, not add to the Repubs litany of your under arrest laws." --sck

* * * * * * *

"The reality is gun control is really people control. In NJ my former home State a certain legislator authored the smart gun legislation, when I spoke with her I said while your at trying to make NJ safer, why not sponsor shall issue legislation for concealed carry, so I can defend my self if need be from armed thugs that roam the streets;

"She replied, 'I suggest you give them whatever they ask, and really think about it, they are doing that because they are VICTIMS OF SOCIETY!...'

"I say to you Mr. Helmke, you gun banners have zero credibilty with me." --tortoise

I also note several good comments by our buddy Countertop there, though he probably isn't a Democrat.

Anyway, it's encouraging to see that many on such a liberal site recognize that the Dems didn't win -- as Helmke suggests -- because of a desire for gun control but rather because the Republicans didn't deserve to win, they lost on a host of non-related issues.

Quote by kramey:

I come from a family that has always owned guns and hunted. No one in my family ever felt the need to own a machine gun or kevlar-piercing ammunition.

Wow. The ignorance over there is just like Kennedy holding up a 30-30 round and whining about armor piercing ammunition. I wonder what they put in their hunting guns?

Must be a lefty thing?

"I wonder what they put in their hunting guns?"

Arlen Specter knows.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
