November 20, 2006Nebraska "No Guns" SignsAs the state gears up for it's new CCW law, already folks are discussing what signs business should use to show they prohibit concealed carry firearms. The one thing I found interesting:
Good for Wal-Mart! That's why I keep buying ammo there. It's also why I will never shop at Costco. Posted by Jeff Soyer at November 20, 2006 06:54 AM Comments
Right. I shop at Sam's Club. Posted by: ben at November 20, 2006 10:56 AMSo.... does this mean they don't post signs or they don't prohibit concealed weapons, or both? Posted by: MD at November 20, 2006 02:14 PMMD, They take the default position of not posting signs against concealed carry, which (if there are no other laws to the contrary) generally makes it OK. There are some states where carrying concealed in a place that sells alcohol (even for off-premisies consumption) is forbidden. In those cases they do post against concealed carry, but that's due to legal requirements, not corporate policy. No, I don't work for Wal-Mart. I just recall this being hashed out in a thread at The High Road (or some other, similar, site). Posted by: Aubrey Turner at November 20, 2006 02:23 PMWal-Mart's friendliness to CCW is why it's a semi-joking tradition for people to make it their first trip out with their new CCW permit (and piece). Most folks buy more ammo. Splains why the Democrats are always attacking Walmart. All things become clear to those that wait. Posted by: Wyostk at November 20, 2006 07:50 PMWal Mart in the SF Bay Area no longer sells guns or ammo. They caved here and it pisses me off since there is no other place to go for it. Posted by: Ron at November 21, 2006 11:13 AMMy Wal-MArt down on the Peninsula still sells ammo, I bought 100-rounds of .30 Carbine on National Ammo Day. :-) In Texas, there is a very clear and explicit description of the the required sign in the CHL law--the sign that must be posted to prohibit concealed carry. Any other sign is legally invalid. Here, Walmart posts signs saying that entering the store with a concealed handgun but without a CHL is prohibited. The sign is kind of silly, but I guess their heart is in the right place. Posted by: AlanDP at November 23, 2006 06:37 AMthe comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
