Brady Bunch Wants AWB Back

Already the various special interest groups on the left are demanding attention. From the L.A. Times:

At the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the leading gun-control advocacy group, President Paul Helmke has high hopes for the assault weapons ban — and he can list races where candidates backed by his group defeated those supported by the National Rifle Assn.

But Helmke, a former Republican mayor of Fort Wayne, Ind., acknowledged that his challenge was to convince Democrats that his cause was not "radioactive." Many Democratic strategists have come to believe that supporting gun-control laws alienates rural voters and many independents.

"Guns are a tricky issue," Helmke said. "But the elections show there's nothing to be afraid of."

Actually, Helmke, but for 10,000 votes (Virginia and Montana,) the Republicans would still control the Senate. Those votes, and many more, could vanish in a NY Hillary Minute if Democrats continue to alienate the pro-gun-rights citizens.

Democrats have every reason to be afraid of kow-towing to leftist special interest groups. They didn't win the elections, the Republicans lost them. If Democrats act with the same 'we know what's best for you' arrogance that Republicans have for the past several years, they're going to find their latest Marxian slogan, "The common good", being crammed down their collectivist throats by the voters.

Incrementalism. It's the Left's new strategy.

Ya gotta watch 'em, always. It's like the old How to Boil a Frog joke.

The Democrats issue is that the "Old Guard' (both literally and figuratively) now hold the leadership posts (via seniority), and they're so aloof to things that they'll likely try to push this. They do so at their own political peril naturally.

Somewhat related, one of the local papers here in NYC said that Mayor Bloomberg was excited about the Democrat win, for among other things (increase pork $) he'd get "Federal assistance in his war against "illegal guns"". What do you make of that?

Tester went on record favoring a repeal of the 1986 Machine Gun Production Ban of all things!

My count is the only gun loss in the senate was losing Talent to McCaskil. The other losses were pretty much an even swap. Remember DeWine and Chafee were NRA "F" rated.

Wow! Any pol who favors the repeal of 922(o) is OK in my book. And I say that as the owner of a pre-86 transferable that would lose 90% of its present value if the ban were repealed.

I think the Dems should have their slogan, "The Common Good" shoved into an orifice rather further South than their collective throats. I hope so, anyway.

If they perform to expectations and attempt to rule instead of govern, it shouldn't take too long. It'll be fun to watch them waddle.

You knew they were gong to want to bring it back. They will not stop until they have baned all guns except bolt action rifles, and handguns and other guns are put into armories, just like in Britain.

Assault Weapons bans are only a startup to more gun control, and when they ban them, and crime doesn't decrease, they will blame it on gun friendly states, and/or gun manufacturers.

Creating a type called an assault weapon is similar to calling a hunting rifle a sniper weapon or to say a 50 calibre weapon a favorite of terrorists. All to scare the public into voting for such bans.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
