Around Here...

Sorry for the light posting on my blogs this week. Real life things (like work) have been rudely intruding into my free time. I'm also behind in email. One day off I spent the entire of it working behind the scenes of my Colony blog, on coding, maps, etc. Amazing how I suddenly turned around, looked at the clock, and realized I'd been sitting at the computer for 12 hours... It's a wonderful thing how combining WarCraft's World Builder program, Terragen, and the always awsome Photoshop can combine to create new worlds.

I also spent a very pleasant evening with my cousins. I have three cousins living in the immediate area and once every three weeks or so we get together for "Cousins' Night" and chow-down, watch a video, and catch-up on family stuff or just yuk-it-up. This week I swung by Borders and got the Addams Family DVD (first season) for a paltry $21.00. We enjoyed watching several episodes. None of us had seen it since we were kids (none of us has satellite dishes).

In the same mall as Borders is a small Wal-Mart and I noticed their sporting goods section has been moved and expanded. More guns, more ammo. I gobbled-up several boxes of ammo to replenish my stores.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had "discovered" the A Bertram Chandler Rim World series of books. I've now purchased a pile of them (about 24) on eBay and they should be drifting in next week. Life is good! Also won an auction of a bunch of Niven books including the Ringworld series, which I've never read so I'm looking forward to that as well. Lastly, an auction of 51 sci-fi anthologies which I won for a measily $15 dollars! Lots of great reading for me this winter!

Lastly, being a political junkie, I've been following all the election stuff though not really writing about it.

There! My life encapsulated for you...

Normal blogging should resume here and on my other blogs next week. In the meantime, don't forget to check out all the great (well, much better than me) bloggers on my blogroll. Just pick them at random and enjoy!

I thought all the Wal-marts go rid of their guns. Ours in CO did, however, they still sell ammo.

Only some of them. In VT and NH (and probably ME as well if there are any) they wouldn't dare! Like I said, in the store in West Lebanon they actually expanded it. Of course, it's hunting season...

My first reads in science fiction were Robert Heinlein, Larry Niven and Saberhagen.

The last two represented a lefty, touch feely world out of touch with humanity in some respects.

Saberhagen's Berserker series had men fighting AI's bent on destroying humanity and all life forms but eventually pointed to man being the real monster in one way or another.

Larry Niven's universe was what the lefty organizations want to give us; cradle to grave guidance and medicating into submission.

You'll note the Man Kzin war series based on several stories by Niven results in a different outlook on humanity (different authors).

I read the Ringworld books in high-school, the technology represented was a bit too perfect, but you can't go wrong with ships named Lying Bastard and Hot Needle of Inquiry.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
