August 25, 2006Shooting Rampage in VermontThis post is being extensively updated as more information surfaces. While it will be interesting to see if Burlington Mayor Kiss uses this as another demand for gun control, it strikes me as just another example of what I've called someone not from around here, who should have been in jail, increasing the crime rate. Anyway, I don't see how gun control can prevent horrible incidents such as this:
Update: The mutant shooter, Christopher Williams, sounds like an all around low-life thug. From the Burlington Free Press:
So once again we have a mutant that wasn't kept behind bars, and this in Massachusetts where officials there spend all their time griping about VT's gun laws. It would be nice if they had practiced criminal control and kept this punk in jail for awhile. Then, this wouldn't have happened. Update 2, 8/26: Here's a photo of the mutant:
Turns out, this isn't even a question of gun control at all since according to court papers he "borrowed the gun" from one of his victims. No law in the world can stop stupidity if someone is going to loan a firearm to a mutant. Granted, we don't know if that "loan" was voluntary... Already, though, we see a call for gun control in VT (Third letter down). I might point out laws are useless if the punk borrowed the firearm. Besides, he could just as easily have used a kitchen knife. By the way, Williams had a restraining order against him from his ex-girlfriend. Once again we see what a worthless piece of paper THAT is though fortunately, he wasn't able to locate her at the school. Unfortunately, he killed her mother and another teacher instead. I'll repeat what I said, given his history of arrests on various charges over the last six years in Massachusetts -- at least one of them for violence, why was he NOT in jail? If we need more jail space, build more jails. That is the only way to really protect society -- by keeping these creeps in jail for meaningful lengths of time. It might not rehabilitate them but at least they can't terrorize the rest of us while they're incarcerated. Vermont blogger Teahouse on the Tracks has been following the story as well and has personal details about the school lockdowns. He also reports that Williams was a fugitive from justice for three years. If they had kept Williams in jail for ten years for the car-jacking, he wouldn't have been on the lam in the first place now! And two people would still be alive. Comments
and the mutant couldn't even manage to kill himself. Bastard. That's too much money and grief in a triall. If these multiple attack (I'm not saying shooting, cos they use any tool they can get. On the Malay peninsula where the word "Amok" comes from, the tool of choice used to be a machete)critters have any brain cells, I'd be interested to know what goes on in them. are they mad, bad or just sad? Posted by: Keith at August 25, 2006 12:49 PMCaught a good explanation for the Left's inability to see the need and benefits of jail and sentencing, which was (sailent part): "liberal intellectuals who pretend to see in crime a natural and understandable response to social injustice, which it would be a further injustice to punish," - they so fully don't get it. Posted by: DirtCrashr at August 25, 2006 03:10 PMDont want to start a race thing here, but I did find the picture interesting and it leads me to want to relay a story from when I lived in Vermont. At the time in the mid 90s, I went to law school with the then mayor of a town close to Bulington. Said town had been in the news at the time on charges of racism as it seemed a significant number of the arrests they were making were of people of color. Of course the liberals were all up in arms and the pinkos at UVM were all up in arms that of course this show the pollyanna whites in Vermont were nothing but hardened deep seated racists. Except, it turned out, that something like 90% of these people weren't from the area and were actually drug runners heading down from the Canadian border to NYC and - like the drug runners coming north on I85 at the time - were easily profiled by their low rider cars and the fact they were traveling at 100 mph. Anyway, my point in all this is it often seems that when crime actually happens in Vermont it is nearly never the fault of Vermonters. Flatlanders, sometimes. But most often it struck me that crime (or at least violent dangerous crimes) were committed by folks from out of state such as this guy who should have been in jail in Massachussets. Posted by: countertop at August 26, 2006 10:03 AMThanks Jeff. Good post, and it allowed me to blog one of my favorite rants. Predators need to be locked away. Forever. Then buried in a prison cemetary. Posted by: PawPaw at August 26, 2006 10:57 AMI don't want to start a race thing here, either, but the two previous shootings this year in the City of Burlington -- that got the Mayor there calling for gun control -- were by Blacks from away. Having said that, here are shootings around the state (granted, rare things -- about four per year) committed by local Whites, almost always resulting from "domestic disputes" as well. However, it does seem there is an influx of an element we don't need. Gang bangers and drug dealers moving here from urban areas and bringing their violent crime inclinations with them. The days of unlocked doors is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. It's not racist to point out the facts... That's also why my nightstand gun (which is also NOW my carry gun) has been upgraded to my Taurus PT 909, a 17+1 capacity. I don't want to have to stop to reload in the middle of an attack. I've also been practicing like crazy at the range, far more frequently. Costs a small fortune in ammo but not nearly as much as I think my life is worth... Posted by: Jeff Soyer at August 26, 2006 12:15 PMTo borrow (read: basrtardize) a phrase from Boston Mayor Mumbles Menino, this tragedy is clearly the fault of lax criminal control laws in Vermont's border states. Posted by: Bruce at August 26, 2006 06:04 PMMutant Ni**** Turtle. Posted by: Bullseye at August 26, 2006 08:29 PMObviously this post is racist. The mutant is a "person of color" and therfore exempt from responsibility. Must have been those evil white men that made him do it. Damn you whitey, damn you! Jeff said: "I don't want to start a race thing here, either, but the two previous shootings this year in the City of Burlington -- that got the Mayor there calling for gun control -- were by Blacks from away." Truth is *NEVER* racist. BTW: Isn't it ood how liberals love to use "people of color" as an excuse to curb the rights of everybody else, whites, blacks, yellow, browns, etc? Massachusetts is crying about Vermont's lax gun laws, and now they're exporting their mutants to Vermont. Seems Massachusetts is the one at fault here for letting this cretin out of jail. Even in Vermont, however, guns are not allowed in school. And where did this subhuman go? Why, to a school, where he could murder in complete safety, of course! Posted by: R.J. at August 28, 2006 12:40 AMThis isn't a racist comment. Sone figures that I have for Britain & America for, I think it was the early 90's showed per 100,000 population of each, black people were 15 times more likely to be in prison than white, in both countries. I did some simple maths, and ther greater population of black people in the US could have explained the higher prison population compared to the UK at that time. Why are black people dis proportionately locked up? Simple answer; they are involved (at 15 times the rate of the white population)in the sort of activities that get them locked up. Complex answer, I think we're looking at an underclass thing. Working with white south africans and knowing a few southerners, the racist K and N words are often used to refer to a state of mind rather than a colour of skin. For the actual racists (Most of whom wouldn't understand means, variances or statistical significance (beleive me!)), I use the example of the thickest driller's labourer that I've ever seen. This guy has blonde hair, blue eyes, and if you leave him in the sun he goes lobster pink, all apart from the tip of one finger that stays white (cos he keeps it up his nose). This guy comes from a pit village where the pit closed years ago, he is from stock (exact pedigree unknown even to him) that has had all self respect and initiative taken from them, first by a feudal system, followed by massive scale heavy industry, then by almost a century of paternalistic state policies. I still blame him for stealing my watch! Posted by: Keith at August 28, 2006 06:26 AMthe comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome.
