Dakota Arms in Chapter 11

I know that gun-grabbing polititians and their lawyers think the firearms industry has deep pockets but as we've been seeing of late (Ithaca, Winchester) it ain't necessarily so. From the Rapid City Journal:

In a news release, Dakota Arms officials said the company's board of directors decided that Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing would be in the best interest of Dakota Arms' customers, creditors and employees. The company will continue operating during the reorganization.

"We want to assure our customer, our dealers and our vendors that we are conducting business as usual. The sales team will continue to take orders and deposits. The manufacturing team will continue to produce the high-quality firearms that carry the Dakota name," Dakota Arms president Charlie Kokesh said. "We do not expect any disruption customer service or quality control as a result of this filing."

Not that I could afford most of their rifles but I hope they come through this in one piece.

No way could I afford a Dakota gun with my after tax income. It is still a shame to see so many of the producers of excellent quality guns going into administration.

Now to my tax...

A thought that occured is Britain and Belgium were two of the big sponsors of that crap at the UN.

it would be in the interest of FN, HK and royal ordnance to have all the cheap AKs and ammo off the world market.

British ministers often get highly paid non exec seats on the board of British Aerospace (Britains main "defence contractor")after leaving office...

perhaps a little market place pressure on those semi state manufacturers will pay dividends for the quality manufacturers like Dakota and our future as civilian shooters?

Back before last year's Boomershoot I was looking to buy my first rifle, and the gun shop down here was trying to get me to buy a Dakota Longbow he had sitting on the back shelf. Droool. No more Longbows, of course -- I believe they discontinued it even before the current financial troubles -- but I can tell my grandkids that I hefted one, at least.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
