"It's Not About Gun Control"

The Detroit Free Press has an interview today with Dearborn (Michigan) Mayor Michael Guido. He offers this:

Q: Will gun violence and illegal guns continue to be a major issue among the nation's big-city mayors?

A: Yes. Mayors actually took up the issue after Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. were assassinated. We've been on that page for years. With the assault rifle (ban), we butted heads with the NRA. We understand everyone's right to have a gun, but they shouldn't have an illegal gun. It's not about gun control; it's gun violence that we're trying to stop.

Uh huh. Then instead of going after everyone's guns, why not go after the mutants committing that violence? What does the "type" of gun have to do with anything?

"They should'nt have an illegal gun" ? Have they read any gun laws lately? Same shit, different day. Jack

How can you say that it's not about gun control, but it is about "illegal guns"? Guns are only made illegal by GUN CONTROL.

Like you said, try targeting the perpetrators, not the tools.

Someone needs to remind Tom Ferrick that the PA constitution says:

The right of the citizens to bear arms in defence of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.

And doesn't say:

The right of the citizens to bear arms in defence of themselves and the State shall not be questioned except by John Street and the City of Philadelphia

Ooops... I clicked on the wrong link. My comment was meant for the previous post.

Wasn't MLK shot with a gun that was not only legal, but the sort of non-self-loading rifle that these very gun banners swear they're not out to ban as a legitimate sporting arm? (A Remington 760 Gamemaster in .30-06, to be precise. Not exactly something common in urban shootings, no?)

What a moron. But then again look at his constituency. For those slow on the uptake-- If people are only prohibited from having "illegal guns", how long before some political body decries all types of guns illegal, and who is to be this arbiter, the legistlators, Amnesty International, the UN?

I have always maintained that anytime a City Ordinance, State, or Federal Law that infringe on the Constitutional Right own firearms is upheld, it sets a precedent, and undermines every right guaranteed by the constitution. If a City ordinance can say that the Second Ammenment to the Constitution does not apply within their jurisdiction then they can and likely will eventually say that the First Ammendment, or the Fourth ammendment also do not apply.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
