May 15, 2006Fuzzy Thinkers of the DayThat would be the majority of people in Canada -- or is it? -- who apparently still support the gun registry:
There seems to be some confusion in all of the accounts I've read of this (all being the same report from CanWest News) since while Ontario residents are strongly in favor of the mismanaged long gun registry (71%), Alberta residents only support it by 51%. Then there's this:
So does that mean that through out the entire country of Canada, a majority still want the registry "scrapped"? If that's the case, then the title of this National Post lead, and many of the other newspaper leads there as well, is misleading when it says, "Canadians don't want gun registry scrapped: poll". So instead of cherry-picking provinces as the poll takers seem to have done, when you ask EVERYONE, the majority are against it. Or maybe they're in favor of the handgun registry (created quite some time ago) but opposed to the long gun registry (which is a fiasco). The CanWest story is quite confusing. The fuzzy thinkers here seem to be the liberal newspapers, CanWest, and Ipsos Reid -- who conducted the survey. Perhaps they could release all of the results, including the phraseology of the questions, to clear things up. Instead, I suspect it really IS the Canadian people, alas, who are the fuzzy thinkers. 67% want the long gun registry "revamped". They still want it, but not in it's present form. In spite of it not working, not solving crimes, costing a fortune and making criminals out of law-abiding Canadians, the majority still want some form of long gun registration. That being the case, the country gets what it deserves. In England, if enough people had protested the confiscation of firearms, maybe Parliment would have backed off. Comments
The Conservatives promised to scrap the damned thing before the elections. They sould keep their promises if they want to continue winning elections. Posted by: Kristopher at May 15, 2006 10:59 AMTypically Canadian. They behave this way on health care as well. Canadians are the ultimate in wanting their cake and eating it too. Argh! Posted by: ben at May 15, 2006 11:11 AMJeff you are correct and as we all know, the Media make up stories to suit their needs. I don't know how fuzzy the thinking is of the Canadians, but I am sure there is an enourmous level of indoctrination and misinformation to create the anti-gun bent witnessed by at least some of the survey results that are dicipherable here. Posted by: Ron at May 15, 2006 12:34 PMKristopher makes a good point and as a commenter pointed out on the War on Guns blog, the voters turned Martin and his cronies out decisively last election. That should be the only poll that counts. Posted by: straightarrow at May 15, 2006 03:03 PMthe comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
