May 15, 2006Clear Thinker of the DayA couple weeks ago I wrote about Tom Casady, the Lincoln, Nebraska Police Chief who -- in an op-ed -- said he didn't think citizens should be allowed CCW. In today's Journal Star, Larry F. Graham takes him to task (second letter):
I've often argued the point to those who are against CCW, do you REALLY want to see us all open-carrying our pistols? Wouldn't you rather we kept them out of sight? Posted by Jeff Soyer at May 15, 2006 08:55 AM Comments
Organized open carry around the statehouse was one of the motivators for getting a CCW law finally okayed by the governor--the legislature had passed one several times and the govs (Voinovich, Taft) vetoed them. SOmeone got the bright idea of having a well publicised open carry protest. That way of course the police would not arrest you for causing a public panic (man with a gun call). Posted by: Roger Thompson at May 15, 2006 10:18 AMTo be fair to the chief, he's probably basing his judgement on the gun carriers he knows. See David Codera's "War On Guns" blog for numerous listings of LEOs leaving their guns in bathrooms, having them fall out of their holsters, etc.. 85% sounds high but I'll take the chief's word that he knows his men better than I do. Posted by: KCSteve at May 15, 2006 02:02 PMThere are states that prohibit open carry but make allowance for permitting CCW. However, I will not ask permission to do what is my right. YMMV. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
