April 20, 2006And Then You Lurch To The Right...First we saw John McCain hanging with Jerry Falwell, now liberal Republican presidential candidate Rudolph Giuliani is embracing Rick Santorum:
What is it about politicians that they think pandering to ideologies nearly opposite their own is going to fool anyone? Now I'll admit that Rudy did a good job leading NYC through the aftermath of 9/11 but there's no way he (or McCain) are going to fool me into thinking they are true-red conservatives. For that matter (since you all know I'm a one issue voter), both have long records of supporting gun control measures that disarm law abiding people. By the way, even if I lived in Pennsylvania I don't think I'd vote for Santorum. He's a little too biblically anti-gay for my tastes. Bob Casey, Jr., the Democratic candidate is slightly to the right of Attila The Hun himself but at least supports civil unions and is very strong on supporting gun rights. But I don't live there and don't really care. I just find Giuliani keeping strange company of late... Comments
I wouldn't vote for or support Santorum either, but for a different reason: he's such a classic politician he makes my skin crawl. He tried to legalize teaching creationism in the No Child Left Behind act -- a classic religious-right cause. He also, several years ago, introduced a federal "puppy lemon law" -- which is a project of the far-left animal rights movement. (A puppy lemon law is basically a law that gives you some legal recourse if you buy a puppy or kitten that turns out to be sick or deformed, co$ting you lot$ of money in vet bill$.) Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
