Kansas CCW Inches Forward

Since I've been following this, here's the latest:

A bill allowing Kansans to carry concealed guns receives a House committee's endorsement after a bit of rewriting.

The panel Wednesday added libraries, churches and temples to the list of places off-limits to hidden firearms. As passed by the Senate last month, the list included courthouses, jails, prisons and mental health centers.

Governor Sebelius had vetoed a concealed-carry bill two years ago.

Proponents hope that expanding the number of places where hidden guns would be banned will help gain enough votes to override a possible veto this year.

Forty-six states already allow at least some of their residents to carry concealed weapons.

I still think the bill is doomed if it reaches the Governor's desk. I just don't see enough votes to override a veto.

I wonder what it is about churches, libraries, and the like that make them magically impervious to the goblins. Maybe if we could figure that out, we could rub some of that juju on the rest of the world and then everyone would make all nice with other. We're gonna end up with CCW, but the only allowed sites will be our own homes. Wait, that's just like now.

Sack Sebelius.

Someone should remind Sibelius of what happened to Ann Richards, the Texas Gov who blocked CCW. She got voted out of office, and her successor, who signed the LTC bill, is now President of the United States. She, on the other hand, has esophageal cancer.

President of the US versus Esophageal Cancer.

I know which I'd choose.

Or she can look across the border here to Missouri. Former Gov. Bob Holden (better known as 'One Term Bob') vetoed our CCW. I hear he's teaching a class of some sort now...

My bet? Sebelius vetoes, it's sustained, and if she doesn't run for higher office elsewhere, she's re-elected.

Especially if the Republicans can't do any better for candidates than they did last time.

House gives first-round OK to carrying concealed firearmsTOPEKA - The House today gave first-round approval to a bill that would allow licensed Kansans to carry concealed firearms.
It was a voice vote only. A final vote on SB 418 will come Tuesday.
If passed, the bill would return to the Senate for a vote on several changes approved by a House panel, including one that would keep guns out of churches.
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has vetoed conceal weapons bills in the past. But the Senate's 29-11 vote several weeks ago gives two more votes than the two-thirds necessary to override a veto.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
