Butler Creek Bananas

Mr. Completely has the latest Rimfire Roundup and it got me thinking about my own .22's. One of my favorite purchases last year were these Butler Creek 25-round magazines for the Ruger 10/22:

Sure they're cheesy looking plastic things but for around $24 bucks you can shoot five targets without taking your eye off the prize. These don't help the look of your rifle either:

I can tell you that they feed flawlessly and are easy to clean (you know how dirty the tops of the 10/22 magazines get) and I heartily recommend the Speed Loader (around $29) that Butler Creek makes for them. My friend has one that I use all the time and tonight I'm heading to the Shooter's Shop for my own.

I like heading to the range with a bunch of pre-loaded magazines for whatever I'm planning to shoot. Especially on cold days like these, who wants to fumble pressing bullet after bullet into a magazine if you only have one?

That must be why, last week, I picked up the three extra Taurus OEM 17-round magazines for my PT-909:

I see from your picture of the magazines that you may have followed a logic path similar to mine. There are two kinds of mags, one with metal lips and one with plastic lips. Which one to get? I also got one of both. Now one of them has significant cracks in the polycarbonate around the feed lips. I won't tell you which! But please let your readers know if something similar is seen in a few hundred rounds with yours.

I also am very interested in finding the most durable mags for the 1022 since I am in the process of coverting a 1022 to select fire.It will run around 1200 rpm. Yes, I have the proper license to do the conversion and the gun will be registered with NFA branch. Jack

I love those banana clips. Makes you want to fire from the hip while screaming 'wolverines!'

You might actually get away with doing that at the range with a 22 rifle.

When I was a kid growing up in rural CT during the heady pre AWB days, having a "banana clip" for your 10/22 was the ne plus ultra of little guy armaments. ;)

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
