Twice As Many Reps Own Guns As Dems

A rather obvious statistic. From Editor & Publisher:

...the Gallup organization revealed today that a review of its recent polling data shows a wide disparity in numbers of Republicans and Democrats who say they own guns.

It showed that 41% of Republicans own guns, and only 23% of Democrats. Just over 1 in 4 Independents said they own one or more guns.

Overall, 4 in 10 Americans says thy gun in their home or on their property, with 30% saying they personally own a gun and 12% who say another member of their house owns one.

As for what they use the guns for, they are about equally divided, with 67% citing crime protection, 66% target shooting and 58% hunting. Republicans who own guns are somewhat more likely to use them for hunting than Democrats.

Gallup said there has been little change in these numbers since 2000, after numbers took a dive about ten years ago.

I would have thought that a larger percentage of Democrats would use them for hunting simply because they (usually) don't believe in them for self-defense or such.

That means that one-in-five Dems owns a firearm. One fifth of Democrats vote against their own 2nd Amendment rights. Granted they probably live in rural areas and their local or state representatives are good on gun rights but why are they supporting folks like Kerry and Clinton at the national level?

If I see one more article that wantonly mixes percentages and fractions I'm going to...

Well, nothing actually. It just drives me nuts.

I agree, not terribly surprising.

The study is BS. If someone calls you and wishes
to steal your guns they always will say they are
from a pollster. almost nobody tells the truth
anymore - and most will not play the game.

Why? Did you say "Why?" Because maybe they feel unworthy and unable to make a decision not approved by someone they consider smarter, stronger, morally superior, and nurturing? Oh wait, I just described my Australian Blue Heeler.

Well, come to think of it the behavior is the same, isn't it?

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
