Taking It Easy Today

I finally have a day off where I didn't have to spend time at work. Yeah! So I'm engrossed in Robert Ferrigno's Prayers For The Assassin and will report on that soon. I've been blogging non-stop for weeks now and today and tomorrow I'm just gonna kick-back and try to stay off the computer.

Also, later this afternoon I pick-up the new Taurus Pistol and in another "yeah" it looks like Saturday is supposed to be in the 40's and sunny. Guess I'll head to the range...

Update 5 PM: You know, there's something wonderful about where I live when I can walk into a gun shop, plunk down $486 bucks (and since it was NH, no sales tax) and walk out 10 minutes later with a 9mm pistol with two 17-round magazines, two boxes of ammo (1 round nose, 1 JHP), a bottle of Hopp's gun oil, and a pair of shooter's gloves.

I haven't even cleaned it yet (of the dripping thick oil they ship it in) but wanted to snap this pix of it. The flash on my Sony Mavica has died so I had to lighten it with Photoshop. This Saturday I'll have it at the range and will have a good camera with me to make some gun pr0n. Now the PT-909 joins my hi-cap Para-Ordnance P-45 as guns I might use when I explore practical shooting, maybe this Summer. There's a good and active club here in Vermont and I want to try the sport out.

It's so nice not to have to deal with licenses, permits, bans, regulations, bullshit...

My condolences to readers in Canada, England, Australia, NYC, Chicago, DC, and maybe soon, San Francisco. Life is good for a Vermont country boy...

A 4473.
Registration, er, a "background check."
Two thumbprints.

Doesn't sound terribly free to me.

Sorry, you lost me. What thumbprints? The Instant Check takes about 60 seconds. As a Vermont resident, there are no permits or licenses. I bought the handgun from the NH dealer across the river. He had his VT FFL buddy from my side meet us. The NH dealer transferred the gun to the VT dealer who then ran the NICS and a minute later handed the gun to me...

You go, fella!
We Australians cheer your liberty.

That's a lot better than the "application to purchase a firearm" and "security inspection/add your pistol to our secret gun database" thing they do in Michigan.

I should have asked the sherriff how many felons come in to get their police record checked before they buy a handgun.

"Since I have a non-resident NH CCW, I carried the gun across the river myself."

Er, in which state did you say you took possession of the handgun? Your state of residence, right?

Posted by: anonymous at February 2, 2006 07:17 AM

Yes, that's what I meant. We met on the VT side and he handed me the gun (It's only a minute from the shop). Sorry if I wasn't clear... I took possession in VT.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
