On the Wrong Track in MA

Hat tip to mASS BACKWARDS for pointing to this nonsense:

Saying gun manufacturers should take steps to track guns, a Boston city councilor is proposing that global positioning technology be installed in firearms.

Councilor Rob Consalvo wants to put a tracking device into newly manufactured guns and have legal gun owners retrofit their firearms so owners and police can locate and retrieve stolen guns the same way police use a computer chip to locate stolen cars.

''Let's use that same technology to track weapons so we know where they are when they're stolen or bought illegally," he said. ''I think it's a common-sense idea."

See that? Not just new guns but all guns. This is a gun registry designed to find out what and where you are carrying at all times. Give me strength...

Heard this on the radio yesterday. Absolutely astounding. This guy doesn't have any idea on how to do it, or whether it's possible. He openly stated that the cost doesn't matter either, which is quite predictable.

The worst thing I found was the quote I read from the Boston Police department.

quote.......
"The Boston Police Department supports any type of gun control," said Officer Michael McCarthy. "We leave that to the lawmakers. We'll promote gun safety."
unquote.......

Nice. Makes me feel just so much safer in Boston. High gun crime and can't defend yourself. Criminal heaven.

Thanks for the link. I just put up another post this morning highlighting the severe lack of gray matter occupying the confines of Concilor Rob "Satellite" Consalvo's cranium.

p.s. Not that you wouldn't figure this out on your own, but you didn't close the italics tag there.

not to mention would make confiscation much more efficient.

Provided no one figured ot that you can rip a plastic circuit board off with you bare hands, or nothing more that a screw driver.

Clueless twit

Why doesn't he suggest putting GPS trackers on every person? Heck, you can kill people with knives, rocks and baseball bats, but you can't put a GPS on every knife, baseball bat, and rock in boston. You gotta track ALL the people, why can't he see that! [sarcasm off]

Good grief. The government is already making us put RFID tags on all our cows so they can keep track of them from birth to the butcher. Now they want to know everywhere we go...what with all those gun racks in the pickup trucks and all, we will be easy to trace.

Meanwhile crime is up on the streets of Boston, why? Because even retired cops can't carry. No one can.

GPS receivers are radio RECEIVERS--they don't transmit. Typically a cellphone is installed to transmit the GPS coordinates to whoever wants to track the object. Receivers and transmitters require power--especially transmitters. No solar cell or other self charging system is going to cut it. Significant battery power will be required. How long does it take for your cell phone to go dead if you don't recharge the battery? That's about how long it will take for Consalvo's bright idea to fade from the scene.

Well, Joe, if it's technically infeasible to install GPS transmitters on all guns, then obviously we'll just have to dispose of the guns instead. Much easier.

Of course, there's no chance anyway - the ACLU is sure to bitterly fight this intrusion into citizens' privacy, right?

Oh, I crack me up.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
