January 08, 2006Another Gun Owner Wants National Gun ControlHere we go again... John Rosenthal is a gun owner and cofounder of the groups Stop Handgun Violence, Common Sense About Kids and Guns, and the American Hunters and Shooters Association. Another Brady Bunch type masquerading as a typical gun owner. From the Boston Globe, he offers some suggestions:
Where to begin. Instead of worrying about how a gun owner stores his firearms, how about making it a crime to burglarize peoples' homes, cars, and stores? Oh, I forgot; it is! It's just that judges refuse to lock anyone up. While it is certainly a good idea for households where children are present to use a gun safe, requiring it of everyone (such as those who don't have children) is an intrusion into what we keep around our homes. Since DVD players are hot items, should we all be required to lock those up as well so they aren't stolen? And since when have safes ever stopped burglars anyway? I remember the case of one jeweler whose home was robbed. So he installed a safe. He was robbed again and the thieves wheeled the entire safe out of his house! Allow the FBI to maintain a gun ownership base? Sounds like registration to me. And registration has always led to confiscation. Germany, England, Australia come to mind. Oh wait! California comes to mind since they started banning specific "assault weapons" and made criminals out of legal owners of them. Even Sen. Joe Leiberman stated that he would be against a national registration because he worried about future confiscations by the government. Require background checks for all transfers? Between two friends? When a father hands-down that .22 to his son? Limit purchases to one-per-month? If a person is a law-abiding citizen, why should he be limited? Maybe he comes across an antique pair of dueling pistols at an estate sale; can he only buy one of them? This is silly. Fake, phony, frauds like Rosenthal would have you believe that everyone, everywhere in the country should have their rights curtailed just so urban areas of this country -- where crime and gangs are out of control -- don't have to do the heavy lifting of actually fighting crime themselves. This is the same specious thinking that NYC Mayor Bloomberg is proposing to propagate to state houses around the country: We have a problem in our city so you must change all your laws to help us out. To Bloomberg and Rosenthal: Go pound salt. Comments

Look what Ted Kennedy's wife is doing. Victoria Reggie Kennedy is the President and co-founder of Common Sense about Kids and Guns, a non-profit, non-partisan organization created to address the serious crisis of gun deaths and injuries to children in the United States. Common Sense has joined with a diverse group of allies to raise public awareness about gun safety and the dangers of unsupervised access to guns by children. Mrs. Kennedy is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, where she chairs the Board's Program and Strategic Planning Committee. She has served on the Board of Stop Handgun Violence in Boston, Massachusetts and has served as a member of the Advisory Committee for the Annual Day of National Concern about young People and Gun Violence. Posted by: George at January 8, 2006 09:50 PM"# Limit gun purchases to one per month per person." Yes, let's not forget how often violent crimes are committed in which multiple registered firearms are used by one criminal. How many guns do you need to kill someone? I always thought that was a matter of ammunition. "# Create incentives for gun manufacturers to produce ''personalized" and ''child-proof" guns that only the intended user can fire." I'll "child-proof" my guns (even though I don't have any children) when they start idiot-proofing Congress. Posted by: Dave at January 9, 2006 06:42 AMIgnorance never ceases to amaze me. I love how John Rosenthal throws in how he's a gun owner. He probably has his grandfather's .22LR nailed in over his fireplace with the barrel filled with lead. God do I hate sheeple. Posted by: Derek at January 9, 2006 10:29 AMIf it were only ignorance, it would be a lot easier to deal with. Unfortunately, John Rosenthal either has a shorter memory span than any life form known to man, or is simply a bald face liar. I've been in numerous legislative hearings where he's made a long list of false statements, and documentary evidence was presented to both the legislators and to him personally, proving them to be false. The next time he testified, he repeated the esact same lies, acting as if he'd never heard anything to the contrary. Ad infinitum; ad nauseum. The man is quite simply a sociopath. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
