January 08, 2006Maybe We Should Build That Wall...If you read my Weekly Report last Monday, you know that Canada, Jamaica, et al are blaming the US for their gun crime problems. Now, from the LA Times, Mexico is blaming us as well:
So again we have a piss-pott country saying that if the US would only ban the sale of firearms, there would be no crime in Mexico. Okay, I have an idea. There's talk of building a huge fence or wall along the southern border. Let Mexico share the cost of it. Guns won't flow into Mexico and illegals from Mexico wont flow into the US. Everyone wins! Oh wait! Vicente Fox doesn't like that idea:
So I guess we're back to the US having to scrap it's Bill of Rights. That's easier than for Mexico to actually go after it's criminals. Of course, with half the Mexican government on the payroll of the drug lords they'd wind up arresting themselves... Posted by Jeff Soyer at January 8, 2006 08:06 AM Comments
Most of the illegal weapons trade between the US and its neighbours is part of the drug trade. If the US, Canada and Mexico want to stop it, they need only legalise drugs. Then drugs can be regulated, controlled and taxed, organised crime would lose its biggest source of revenue and the illegal arms trade would also be greatly diminished. Oh yeah, all the crime caused by drug addicts trying to support their expensive habit would also cease immediately. Posted by: timmy at January 8, 2006 03:28 PM"was a "very bad signal" from a nation of immigrants." How is the United States any more a nation of immigrants than Mexico? As far as I'm concered they can't build that wall quick enough. Posted by: Yosemite Sam at January 9, 2006 10:32 AMThe article you cited is a bit inaccurate. It said: That is complete bullsh%t. I can attest that there a LOT more than 2500 gun owners in Mexico. I was in a small town of La Petaca, NL Mexico during the New Year's. It is a Mexican tradition to fire guns (mostly handguns) into the air to celebrate the New Years. In La Petaca, I personally heard several people firing guns into the air. La Petaca isn't that big. Gun ownership in Mexico is legal (my in-laws living is Mexico can own guns). However, it is illegal for me as an American to bring guns/ammo across the border without authorization. That fact alone makes Americans, like myself, vulnerable to drug lords/criminal scum. Posted by: J Schan at January 9, 2006 11:16 AMI think the idea of a wall along the US/Mexican border is silly and simply won't work, but if someone in government is truly serious about illegal immigration from south of border they should start locking up for a minimum of 30 days every corporate president and personnel manager who hires even one undocumented worker. That would be far more effective. Posted by: Frank W. James at January 9, 2006 03:25 PMthe comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
