January 04, 2006Marion Barry is an IdiotHow else to explain that the former disgraced Mayor who believes that only criminals should have guns has now declared that he doesn't want the thugs who robbed him at gunpoint on Monday to be prosecuted? From the Washington Post:
So far, he's describing the same experience as many others who have been terrorized by mutants in our society. But Barry, who has called guns a "pandemic" and has called for stiffer sentences for violent criminals, said this:
This is positively unconscionable. What Barry the Hypocrite is saying is that even though he was "frightened" and the robbery was "horrifying" and his life "passed before his eyes" he is willing to allow these mutant punks to stay on the street without being prosecuted. Explain to us, Barry, how you'll feel after reading that these bastards have terrorized someone else after you gave them a free pass. Describe to us how you'll react if they pull the trigger on their next victim. Tell all of us what you'll say to the victim's survivors. Oh and Marion? If you love them so much, why not hand over another $200 dollars to them. I'm sure they'll spend the night with you and at least that will keep them off the streets for a few fucking hours. Barry is a totally, morally bankrupt idiot. For their own safety, the voters of Ward 8 should launch a recall or at least vote this schmuck out of office. [Hat tip to reader JM for pointing this story out to me.] Comments
He doesn't want them prosecuted because they'll testify that the "groceries" they "helped" him carry came in vials... Posted by: Jay G at January 4, 2006 08:32 AMPaper, plastic, or foil, sir? Posted by: Bruce at January 4, 2006 08:44 AMWhat, exactly, is the point in them turning themselves in if they're not going to be prosecuted? Not only stupid, but completely illogical to boot. Apparently crack has long-term effects. Who knew? Posted by: Tom at January 4, 2006 10:19 AMMore like: Paper, Plastic or Kevlar, sir? Hey Marion; How's that gun control workin' for ya buddy? Posted by: tomWright at January 4, 2006 12:55 PMAs the others have said, he doesn't want them prosecuted (or even caught) because he's worried about them testifying. The original story said that they helped him carry in his groceries, left, and came back a short time later. Given his history that sounds mighty like he sent them out to get some special 'groceries' for him - a fairly common sentiment, it seems. Yeh, he's hiding another coke-deal. Posted by: -keith in mtn. view at January 4, 2006 03:58 PMBarry's not stupid. Amoral, venal, corrupt, crooked, yes, but not stupid. Because he's also a racist demagogue and is always playing to his base. And it works for him. Posted by: Steve Skubinna at January 4, 2006 05:26 PMi think he's finally lost all his marbles: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/01/03/AR2006010301641_pf.html I like KDT's suggestion for Africa. Build a wall, give them all weapons, and when only one person is left standing, kill him. I live within spitting distance of the District and refuse to set foot in the place. Free Nat's tickets? No tanks. Posted by: Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner at January 5, 2006 11:15 AMAny one want to take bets that these little kids were suppose to come back with drugs for the Mayor and it is just a drug deal gone bad? Marion Barry and Rosie O'Donnell are pretty much birds of a feather -- an important exception being that Rosie, at the very least, has never wielded any governmental clout. Remember when she ambushed Tom Selleck, on her TV program, because he belongs to the NRA? Then we come to learn she has no problem with the notion of keeping arms around to defend herself. Peasants like the rest of us, she's perfectly willing to leave for roadkill. I hope I haven't spoken too soon about Rosie wielding no governmental clout. If it hits the news, next week, that she is running for mayor someplace, I hope nobody shoots me. Posted by: Lori Heine at January 5, 2006 01:37 PMI brought the original story on Barry to Jeff's attention. Jeff and I have a running dialogue because, as a lifelong DC resident, I have never been legally able to own a gun of any kind. I read his site with a mixture of jealousy and inspiration. One of these days I may have to make a pilgrimage to Vermont and see if he will let me have a shot with the BFG-50. Anyhow, here's a little postscript to the Barry story. Two days after the incident, Barry led the city council in passing a law that now criminalizes me for smoking a cigarette in a bar. Nice, huh? January 5, 2006 Smoking inside most bars and restaurants in the nation's capital would become illegal under a ban approved by the D.C. Council. "It's going to ban smoking virtually everywhere," Councilman Marion Barry said of the measure prohibiting smoking in most public and private buildings.
