January 02, 2006How's This For Anti-Gun Bias?An editorial today in the Wausau Daily Herald (WI) says this:
Well actually, allowing law-abiding citizens to carry concealed weapons is a far more reliable means of self-defense than relying on someone in Heaven to come to your aid, such as when:
While there's no guarantee that if McClain had been armed he could have scared off the mutants, I'm sure he'd have had a better chance than appealing to Heaven. It's obvious there were no cops around to protect him from the savages. Yet the Wausau Daily Herald would deny him the protection that a concealed carry gun could have afforded. Then, after admitting that applicants for a CCW permit would be required to be sober when carrying, pass firearms training, and not carry in bars, school zones or other government buildings, the un-named editorial writer asks:
Of course the question was rhetorical and they have their own answer but I'm thinking, "Good question!" I believe that if someone has demonstrated that they are law-abiding then they should be allowed to carry anywhere. Again, since the cops can't be everywhere, and neither can Heaven, I say, "Let them carry their gun every place they go!" But that's just me... Comments
I'm a lesbian gun-owner in Arizona. I thoroughly agree with the Pink Pistols' motto that "armed gays don't get bashed." I find the condescending attitude of people who want to take away our guns not only insulting but threatening. Last night on cable, I happened to catch the misty-eyed, romantic ending of the film The American President. Of course, part of the great moral stand Annette Bening urged Michael Douglas into making was that of taking away everyone's guns. I can assure you that my misty eyes dried up real fast. Why is it that these people claim they support rights for gays and women, yet they want to leave us defenseless against violent crime? The police aren't going to defend us. By the time they arrive on the scene, all that's left for them to do is mop up the blood. Posted by: Lori Heine at January 2, 2006 04:46 PMLori, it isn't just gays and women they want unarmed, it's everybody. None of these handwringing ninnies has ever explained, so far as I know, why they despise their fellow citizens so much. Posted by: Steve Skubinna at January 2, 2006 05:46 PMI didn't mean to imply they only want gays and women unarmed. My implication was that these bleeding-heart lefties claim SPECIAL COMPASSION for gays and women. They assure us they are our FRIENDS. I was simply commenting on the hypocrisy of the Barbra Streisand crowd in general. It is one of the (many) reasons I am no longer a Democrat. The Dems are insincere about most of what they tell us. I have come to agree, in any case, with the Libertarian Party in its refusal to favor any special group over any other. To them, rights are the same for everybody, and that's quite good enough for me. Posted by: Lori Heine at January 2, 2006 06:12 PMthe comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
