The '2005 Got Guns' Meme

The other day Tam was showing off her 2005 acquisitions and now Jay G is too.

Since I have to be at work in an hour I'll have to settle here for a quick "group shot" of the guns I got this past year:

guns_of_2005.jpg

At the top is the super cool loaner Serbu BFG-50 Carbine. Hopefully I've helped sell a couple for Mark. In any event he hasn't asked for it back yet and I'm certainly not going to, er, remind him... I got it late in the range season and hopefully will still have it for more demonstrating for the full Summer in 2006. I still have to find a range with some distance. So many converts to make; so little time.

Next is the Franchi 20 guage over-under. Then, the Ruger 10/22. Lastly, the EAA .45 P-Witness.

Incidentally, I stopped by Harry's Shooters Shop last night and put down some more money on the Taurus PT 909. In a couple weeks it should be mine and that will be the first buy for 2006.

While there I looked over the Bushmaster 20 inch .223. It's real nice although the one thing that puts me off is the plastic heat shield which just seems kinda' cheap looking and feeling.

Anyway, I think this makes a good meme to pass on to all gun bloggers: 2005, what'd ya get? Readers should tell us in the comments. Bloggers, put a post up with pictures!

Update: Here's a list of posts by other bloggers (that I know of) who picked up the photo gauntlet for your gun pr0n pleasure:

David at Random Nuclear Strikes

Denise at The Ten Ring

Inspired by Tam's original post, Xavier at Xavier Thoughts

On his own, Michael Bane's Gun of the Year

James at Hell in a Handbasket has more links.

Heartless Libertarian offers up his 2005 booty.

Let me know if you've taken part in this meme (with photos) and I'll add a link to your post here.

And for you non-blogging readers: please continue letting us know what ya' got this past year in the comments, and especially why. I'm in a gun buying mood and always looking for suggestions. Incidentally, if you'd like to show them off, send me an email with a photo of your newest toy(s) and a write-up and I'll post it here. Let me know what "name" you'd like to be credited by since not everyone wants to have their real name immortalized in connection with firearms in the archives of Google...

Got my first two guns this year.

My Ruger P345 and Remington 870 shotgun.

2006 will see a .22 rifle and hopefully a .357 six-gun joining the family.

This year I purchased a DPMS M4 with a eotech optics, Tikka hunter in 300WSM, a Benelli Nova 12 guage, Beretta 9000, Beretta Inox Neos last but not least an Arsenal SAM-7 AK47. This was a good year for me.

Great meme! My writeup's at http://www.softgreenglow.com/mt/archives/2005/12/last_years_guns.html

Don't be put off by the plastic on that Bushmaster---as long as the handguards are lined with aluminum. Have a look, they probably are.

Posted by: Fûz at December 31, 2005 05:43 PM

Got a Ruger 10/22 Stainless, and a Leupold scope for it that cost as much as the rifle. Even still, the combo cost less than a decent left handed bolt action .30-06 that's next on my list.

Also got a Beretta U22 Neos, 6" barrel. For general plinking, or even serious target shooting you can't go wrong with .22LR.

And finally, I picked up an M1 Garand, serial number in the middle three millions. According to my limited research it was manufactured in April '45 so probably did not see action in WWII.

For 2006, in addition to the bolt action mentioned above, I will get something in 5.56 (from Robinson Arms - either their M96 or the XCR). I am also seriously considering one of the new replica 1911s (not A1) from US Firearms.

2005 acquisitions of note:

M-1 Garand in the 877k serial number, which translates to June 1942. Very exciting to own such a piece of history! (CMP Greek Service Grade .30-06).

S&W 686P Limited edition Stocking Dealer Special .357 magnum. 5" semi-lugged barrel; 7 shots. Here's a great review:
http://www.handgunsmag.com/featured_handguns/686p_021105/

2006 wish list (not in any order):
-Mossberg 590A1 12 ga. 9-shot
-Kel-Tec Sub 2000 9mm folding carbine (I have Glock 9mm pistol already)
-.22LR rifle(s)-1 tack driver, 1 take down
-M1 Carbine (maybe)

Posted by: Perp at January 1, 2006 04:26 AM

Ooops. Forgot to include in wish list a .357 rifle to match the 686P revolver. Probably a Winchester Trails End Lever Action 20".

Posted by: Perp at January 1, 2006 04:30 AM

Beretta U22 Neos with a red dot sight was my first purchase of 2005.

Following that was my new carry piece, a Springfield Armory XD40 subcompact.

And last, but not least, I got a Rock River Arms M4orgery. Their Entry Tactical with retracting stock, Hogue grips, and 2 stage match trigger is a joy to shoot.

Let's see:
I bought the wife a Kel-Tec P32 for work carry.
Bought a Yugo SKS for myself, and wife liked it so much I had to buy a second one.
Bought myself an Enfield No.4 mk.1 at the same time I bought her SKS.
Bought a Swiss K31 for BAG day.

Wish list for 2006? M1 Garand!

All I could afford this year was a Marlin 1894C in .357 Magnum and a used Ruger GP-100 4" .357 Magnum companion piece.

Posted by: anonymous at January 1, 2006 05:52 PM

S&W model 29, 8 3/8" barrel. Unfluted cylinder. 6 rounds of .44 magnum sweetness. Needed a companion for my Henry Big Boy.
S&W model 60 snubbie, .357 magnum. Needed something compact to put under my arm. 'Course that required the addition of a Galco Miami Classic to stick it in.

I got a 1945 era K-31 for Buy-A-Gun day too. It's on the bottom. Can't afford a 1929 Swiss Luger to match, but I don't believe the regular Swiss Army guys carried sidearms if they had a K-31 already, I think that would have been an Officer's piece.(?)

2005 was the year of the Commie Gun here at the Rancho. Picked up a cherry Bulgarian Makarov, an 'unissued' Yugo 59/66 and an arsenal restored Mosin Nagant model 38 carbine. Sweet! A Ruger KP345 and a nice little Westernfield(Mossberg) 30-30 levergun rounds out the centerfire acquisitions.

Gun goals for 2006? a CZ 550 in 6.5x55, a Finnish M39 Mosin and one of those sweet little Baikal IZH-46m airguns.

Didn't even notice that, Ravenwood. Very keen eye!

No pictures... there's too many in the list to make it easy on me.

Posted by: Justin Buist at January 2, 2006 09:56 PM

This year - Greek M1 Garand, 1917 Enfield, WW II TT-33 Tokarev, 1919A4 Browning (semi), model 38 Moisin-Nagant, L1A1, and an Egyptian Hakim. There were also a bunch of parts kits that I'll be working on building this year.
