What I'm Reading...

I'm most grateful to my Dad for giving me the love of Sci-Fi and Mystery novels. I know he used to enjoy the great Erle Stanley Gardner's Perry Mason series and I found a bunch of used hardbacks last Spring for him. Last week I found another cache at the local book store and picked them up. Naturally I've been reading them furiously before packaging them up to mail to him for his birthday next week.

While Agatha Christie is still my "Goddess", I think Gardner is, maybe, King.

Also at the used bookstore I picked up a copy of Allen Steele's Tranquillity Alternative and (even though I'm not a big fan of alternate universe stories) it is a fast-paced read with plenty of action which I enjoyed mightily. I recommend it.

Today I plan to tackle C. S. Lewis' The Screwtape Letters which I've heard about but never read. Life is good around here...

Hi Jeff,
I haven't visited your site in a while. FWIW, here are a few suggestions: Rex Stout is - well, was - a pretty terrific writer of mysteries. Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin are the protagonists. He wrote from the 1930s thru the 1980s, I believe. Clever mysteries, very fine writing.
Cheers

One of the guilty little pleasures in life is buying someone else a gift of book(s) and then reading same before wrapping them.

Surely you didn't think that you were the only one who read first?

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
