NH to Boston's Menino & Co.: Fuck Off!

A couple weeks ago I wrote about how Boston's Mayor Menino and city cops were complaining about the supposed flow of illegal guns from NH and other NNE states into Massachusetts and specifically Boston. Their gripe is that Vermont, NH, and Maine still observe (in varying degrees) the Second Amendment. Now the US Attorney for New Hampshire is firing back:

CONCORD, N.H. --The U.S. attorney for New Hampshire is firing back against charges that lax gun control laws in northern New England are partly responsible for an increase in gun crimes in Boston.

U.S. Attorney Thomas Colantuono told Foster's Sunday Citizen that's an "urban myth" that doesn't stand up to the facts.

Data collected by the federal "Project Safe Neighborhoods" show that most of the guns used in Massachusetts crimes come from within that state, Colantuono said. The data also show that fewer than 10 percent of the guns used in Massachusetts crimes come from New Hampshire; instead, Georgia is the top source of out-of-state guns.

Also, many of the guns traced back to New Hampshire were sold several years ago, belying Boston officials' claims that New Hampshire guns are contributing to a recent surge in shootings and other gun crimes, he said.

[...]

Gov. John Lynch "does not believe we need any changes in our gun laws in New Hampshire," but would be willing to talk with Massachusetts officials and federal agents about better enforcement, said his spokeswoman, Pamela Walsh.

I'm glad Gov. Lynch chimed in. I was starting to think he was totally useless.

Menino and the whiny Boston cops should concentrate on their street gangs and stop trying to tell other states what laws to pass. Your problems are not ours and never will be because up here mutants are likely to face the business end of a gun.

Wow, Jeff, are you a little angry?

Somewhat off subject, but I have to give credit to the state of Massachusetts for one thing. I received my non-resident LTC permit (good for one year) within 30 days. I couldn't believe it! It took nearly 4 months for my own home state of Georgia to deliver my concealed cary license. I used to live in MA and I can provide 20 issues I have with that state, but I will always remember them for their speediness in processing my LTC application.

My favorite Mass vs NH story was a few years back, when a number of bay state residents would drive up to NH to the state liquor stores and buy wine and liquor for transportation home. Mass didn't like this, so the MA state police started hanging out in NH state liquor store parking lots, planning to follow MA plated cars back into MA, then stopping them.

When NH got wind of this, they arrested the MA police for loitering in liquor store parking lots.

Jason, you are the exception to the MA LTC wait time. Most people wait several months.

Go to my site and see what people have to go through.

I can't believe NH didn't just come out and tell Mumbles that he's full of shit and should stop making shit up. Totally unfounded claims of gun flow from NH and nothing is done about it.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
