December 18, 2005Great News!I just saved a bunch of money by switching my auto insurance to Geico. No, really! My current policy ends Jan 10th and I've been with the same, local VT company for years and never really gave it (the cost) a though. I just figured I fall into the dreaded "single" category and so had to pay a lot. But now that I own my car and am trying to get smarter about money, I thought I'd take Geico up on their challenge. Their website was easy to use and didn't ask intrusive questions such as for my SS#. The exact same policy, coverages, deductibles that I currently have now (and that I just got my renewal notice for) is over $200 dollars LESS with Geico. I don't mind paying a couple bucks more to buy locally but not two friggin hundred dollars more... Comments
That's about 1K rounds of .308! Posted by: Benson at December 18, 2005 12:17 PMI would suggest talking to a local autobody shop about service from the various insurance companies. They might have some valuable insight. Posted by: Joe Huffman at December 18, 2005 01:31 PMLet me guess, you traded shooting lessons with the gecko for a low rate? Posted by: tomWright at December 18, 2005 03:46 PMYeah, but now you'll feel guilty when the local chamber of commerce mounts their "support your community, shop locally" campaign. Oh, the agony! Of course you can buy a lot of ammo and booze to ease your pain for $200. Which you can spend locally. Boy, are you lucky that I found this loophole for your conscience. Posted by: straightarrow at December 18, 2005 05:00 PMYou might want to check out this url: If you should get a speeding ticket where the officer is using a radar gun, you might want to ask if Geico supplied the radar gun. Then you might want to check on how high your rates jump for - say - the next 3 years. This is one way Geico gets to set such low initial rates! Posted by: OldeForce at December 18, 2005 11:46 PMI have heard much about Geico's tendency to drop policies like a hot potato if you ever make a significant claim, as well. I'm happy paying more to State Farm, because I am absolutely confident they won't try to screw me over in the long run. (I'm sure this is true of other large providers, too.) Posted by: Sigivald at December 19, 2005 05:46 PMI went through the Geico site. A minor quibble is that it actually does ask for SS number, but if you click on the additional information it tells you that it is not required for the initial quote. I was surprised that Geico came in $44 per year more expensive than my current State Farm policy. It is still a good idea to shop around regularly. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
