November 29, 2005No Report TodaySome problems (like a disconnected phone) will prevent me from doing my Weekly Check today and posting will be very light over the next ten days or so as I'm entering a long unbroken stretch at work without a break. Things will return to normal here in a couple weeks and I'll post now and then from my work computer. See you soon. Comments
One may want to turn to today's NY Post, which features the terrible story of an NYPD officer who was shot in the heart but continued chasing the suspect until he died of his injuries. Afterwards, the paper rolls into a ridiculous screed about our national gun laws, blaming the NRA for the shooting as well as others that have taken place in New York. It of course begs the question as to why those states with looser gun laws don't have anywhere near New York's level of violence, though in this case the victim was an armed police officer, so the usual arguments about citizen's rights to carry are negated. Still, it fails on the larger level of the futility of prohibition. They're experiencing a spike in officer shootings in the UK, which the Post would do well to examine before proposing the same thing here. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
