Elsewhere...

Although we've had a dusting and a couple inches of snow already, mostly this has been a warm Fall. That's about to change as tomorrow they're predicting our first major snowstorm of the season. In the meantime, here's some stuff to warm you up or get you hot-and-bothered:

Heartless Libertarian points out that most in the Media don't have a clue about weapons and tactics used in fighting a war.

Jay Tea says that Massachusetts is screwing the middle class again. This has always bugged me because I'm just barely considered middle class. I don't make enough to have the things I'd like -- such as a house -- but I earn too much to qualify for any government programs that might help me get my own home. My biggest problem is that I'm a single earner family. I have no spouse or partner...

Carnaby Fudge reports on the media ignorance concerning the AK-47 shooting in Tacoma yesterday. Once again it's the auto vs semi-auto mistake that most newscasters make.

Enjoy the snow .

Wish some of it would land down here.

The mild weather is all fine and dandy, but a being outside - wther walking around or just driving my car - in a raging snowstorm is really one of my favorite things in the world. We just don't get enough snow in Virginia.

Semi-Auto or Full Auto? Ever heard of .45 ACP?
What does ACP stand for? Automatic Colt pistol, not Semi-Automatic Colt pistol. So if Colt and JM Browning called their pistol an automatic, why shouldn't everyone else? There are lots of things to complain about regarding the press. I wouldn't waste my time on this one.

Now on a slightly different topic, here's one for the weekly bias report, only this time its good news! From Boston!!!

http://news.bostonherald.com/opinion/view.bg?articleid=113016

"The gun-control lobby trots out lower homicide statistics for Britain, Germany, France and so forth to buttress its case, and it remains true that homicide in Europe generally is less prevalent than in the United States, though the gap has narrowed in recent decades. (We’d dispute that gun laws have much to do with it.)"

Well, Timmy, becaue legally an automatic weapon is a machine gun, which is illegal without an expensive federal license, and which in fact are nearly never used in crimes. And many journalists appear to think that machine guns are owned by every member of the NRA as well as every violent criminal. Further, they appear to believe that those two groups have nearly total overlap.

If we surrender the definitions to the anti-gunners, we might as well surrender the entire debate.

Gee, thanks for explaining that to me.
Now tell me about the birds and the bees.

So what's the deal, timmy? Were you just being facetious earlier? I can't see your tongue in your cheek over the internet, you know. Or is your posting exempt from discussion?

Posted by: Steve Skubinna at November 22, 2005 01:40 AM

Hey, the Tacoma PD got back to me and replied that the weapon used was "Similar to (but not) an SKS-definitely not a .22."

Interesting. I emailed back asking for more details. We'll see.

Oh yeah, and I never in my post actually complained about them calling it an automatic weapon. I complained about them showing an AK5, which was nearly impossible, and then trotting out that ridiculous picture of the big black assault rifle with optics that was the first google hit for AK5. A rifle that was actually a machine gun and totally illegal in this country due to its date of manufacture. I think Jeff was just being breif.

BTW, thanks again for the Alpheccalanch!

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
