Gays and Guns

James at Hell in a Handbasket asks why gays hate guns (gun rights) and says:

I think that the main reason for this is because many people in the gay community define themselves, first and foremost, through their lifestyle. Anything perceived as hostile to their group is automatically bad. Since gun control is a position of Democratic politics, and the Dems are perceived as being on their side….

I think he's right about that and if it weren't 9 PM at night where I just spent the evening (to be honest) drinking with my bosses, I'd say more. Anyway, read his thoughfull post and sometime this weekend I'll offer (over at Jame's blog) my own thoughts.

The guy who is the State Coordinator for the Pink Pistols in Michigan, told me that he gets a lot more guff from members of the GLBT community, than he gets from society in general.

The characterization of gays as anti-gun is changing. Let's start with the 25% of the gay community that voted Republican in the last Presidential Election. Then the workings of groups like Pink Pistols to encourage people to defend themseleves is also making a difference.

The hard left is always the least accepting of people who have differing opinions. They go so far to outlaw (hate speech) differing opinions. They haven't gotten too far in this country, but in Europe it is against the law to say any number of things. Can't let people have free speech! they might think non-government-approved thoughts!

And I was playing with guns before I was playing with the other boys.... Grew up in a catholic family, dad or my brother in law took me hunting, fishing, camping, guns. Now as a memebr of a small group who is more apt to be attacked whilst walking around downton, I have always had something in my tool box so now i can carry legally (ohio has ccw for a yr now) and choose to, except for the fact even if yur a non drinker, going from night spot to hot spot a class d liquor bans yur protective measure...so yur left defenseless walking around a downtown.. I had even mentioned this on a internet radio show i did that I carried an yu should excericse yur right to defend yourself.... Still the GLBT comuntiy at large is almost worse than the general public anti gunnners... SIGH.... sorryhad to ramble...
Thanks for the post Jeff

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
