Here's How It's Done...

It's probably not the best idea to break into the home of a championship hunter. From the Kentucky Messenger-Inquirer:

A member of the Kentucky Turkey Hunters Hall of Fame fatally shot an intruder in his home early Friday, Kentucky State Police said.

Roland Burns, 65, of Rush told investigators that he awoke shortly before 12:30 a.m. EST to find the man in his home in rural Boyd County, Trooper Ed Ginter said.

Shannon Scott Conley, 32, of Rush was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges have been filed in the case. State police are investigating.

Ginter said Burns told investigators that he was awakened by a vehicle in his driveway. He said he went to investigate and found an intruder in his house. Burns told police he returned to his bedroom for a gun.

Burns, who was inducted into the Turkey Hunters Hall of Fame in 2003 by the Kentucky chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, was not injured, Ginter said.

And another mutant bites the dust.

Incidentally, I missed it last week but see this story, too about the pistol packing granny who dispatched a mutant hiding in her home:

The man, 22-year-old Christopher Lessner, lunged for the gun, and, police said, Buxton shot him once in the leg. She fired a second shot, which missed, according to police.

"She had let her dogs out to go to the bathroom and noticed there were muddy footprints leading into her house," said Doug Depoma, with the Arlington Police Department. The woman "searched her house and located him inside a closet near the front door."

Buxton, who was a license for the weapon, said she feared for her safety and that of her 28-year-old granddaughter.

"He was 6 feet tall," she said. "He could have done something horrible my granddaughter and me. That's exactly the reason you need to learn how to handle (a firearm) and keep it with you."

Exactly.

That lady has been all over the news here for the past few days. They even played the 911 tapes. Her daughter called police and you can hear the lady in the background. She was seriously pissed! You can hear her say something like, "How dare you come into my house, you son of a bitch! Get down!" Then you hear the shot.

The daughter then tells the 911 operator to hurry and you hear another shot. The 911 operator tells her to tell her mother to stop shooting and that the police are on the way.

The only grating thing about the story is that both Channel 8 and Channel 5 referred to her as being a "licensed gun owner." Or, as your example shows, they refer to her having a license for the gun (your link is to Channel 5).

The lady has a CHL, which licenses her to carry a handgun. But Texas requires no license to own a gun, nor does the CHL apply to a specific gun, but to the person. So it's not possible in Texas to have a "license for the weapon" as they state in the story you quoted.

They should stick to the Denver police chiefs house. It's safer.

In regards to the Shannon Conley shooting, little does anybody know that the home he entered was his boyhood home. His mother passed away when he was a young boy and his father had been in a coma for much of Shannons life. Shannon was raised by his brother and sisters. Shannon was a tremendous person and would not hurt a fly. He made a mistake and did not deserve to die. Those who knew him will miss him very much

I knew Shannon a little bit while he lived in Los Angeles. He was a very sweet, sometimes sad and beautiful man. He was very tender hearted and suffered from bi-polar disorder. It is regretful that you choose to celebrate his death and refer to him as a mutant. Although I assign no blame to the man who shot him, Shannon must have been confused and disoriented to enter this house where he lived in his childhood. This whole debacle was a tragedy and a comment on how this country cares for our citizens with mental disorders. I hope to God that Shannon has gone somewhere where he will finally be happy and reunited with the parents he lost in childhood.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
