November 06, 2005NY Times on the SF Gun BanAn article in yesterday's New York Times has plenty of quotes that express skepticism of the referendum to ban handguns:
Unfortunately, it would seem that the measure will pass. And this even though the City Council hasn't even determined what the penalties for violating the ban will be. I'm sure that if it passes, all the gang leaders will urge their members to surrender their guns and the city will become a tranquil paradise. Robbers and rapists and drug-crazed muggers will be lining-up at the local precinct houses to give-up the means to their livelyhoods. Comments
Sheesh, even the Pink Pistols have come out against it! I totally don't understand, urging judges to give jail time to people caught with unlicensed firearms. Urging??? Why aren't the judges doing their damn jobs? My bet, if I were the type to bet, is that the measure will fail. There are just too many people and organizations that have come out against it. Plus we (well, I) haven't heard any recent polls on the issue. That usually means the gun grabbers don't want you to know they are about to get embarrassed. Posted by: Joe Huffman at November 8, 2005 06:40 AMWhy I don't bet--from SFGate.com: With 65 percent of San Francisco precincts reporting, 64,676 people, or 57.3 percent, voted in favor of the proposed gun ban, while 48,112, or 42.7 percent, opposed it. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
