On to the President

From Yahoo/AP:

Congress gave the gun lobby its top legislative priority Thursday, passing a bill that would protect the firearms industry from massive lawsuits brought by crime victims. The White House says

President Bush will sign it into law.

The House voted 283-144 to send the bill to the president after supporters, led by the National Rifle Association, proclaimed it vital to protect the industry from being bankrupted by huge jury awards. Opponents, waging a tough battle against growing public support for the legislation, called it proof of the gun lobby's power over the Republican-controlled Congress.

"This legislation will make the unregulated gun industry the most pampered industry in America," said Kristen Rand, director of the Violence Policy Center.

Gosh, Kristen, I thought greedy trial lawyers were the most pampered industry...

One must truly have one's head stuck someplace dark and stinky to even think, let alone utter (on the record, no less) the phrase "unregulated gun industry".

Absolutely amazing. Probably the only more regulated 'industry' is big pharma.

Yah, "unregulated" is not exactly the real world. I still occasionally chuckle over the picture of NYC Mayor B, in support of a law regulating toy guns to make them less similar to real ones, holding up a lime-green transludent water pistol as typical of the "too real looking" toys that needed to have orange muzzles...

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
