Saltpeter in Culpeper

Okay, stupid title but I'm rushed for time. From the Star Exponent (VA):

The posted ban on firearms in town parks has sparked an odd, multilingual e-mail skirmish between Town Manager Brannon Godfrey and a Richmond-based gun rights group.

Both sides are standing by their guns when it comes to the age-old debate of state law superseding local law, but it looks like the town is going to have to fold on its firearms ban in parks.

Signs in Yowell Meadow and Mountain Run Lake parks will be modified within two weeks to remove the “no firearms” restriction - it’s state law.

In the meantime, both sides are wrangling over words.
German words.

Seems that the polite communications from the Virginia Citizens Defense League were met with a rude, juvenile reference to Nazi Germany by the Culpeper, Virginia Town Manager. Read the whole thing.

The good news is that Philip Van Cleave and Mike Stollenwerk of the VCDL did a good job forcing the town to remove the signs prohibiting law-abiding citizens from bearing arms in the town's parks. Protecting yourself and your loved ones is a 24-hour-a-day job that should not be infringed by local tyrants.

I left a comment ... apparently they edit them, so I'm not sure if it will ever see daylight.

No... sadly enough the job of infringing on that right is left up to my wife, who I think would kill me if I tried to carry. Oh well.

Well, that and the ridiculous cost ($280 or so) of getting a license in Texas, between licensing and an insane amount of 'training' required (bit tight at the moment).

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
