September 30, 2005Brady Bunch PosterThe Brady Bunch continue their efforts to scare people from visiting Florida and are putting up posters such as this:
Silliness like this is one reason they have trouble getting anyone to show up at their "Million Mom Marches" anymore. Indeed, with contributions down, their constant over-the-top rhetoric is going to leave them in a state of irrelevance such as PETA enjoys these days. The new law -- actually just a reaffirmation of rights under existing law -- goes into effect tomorrow. We shall see if the "streets run with blood...". What say we put up some posters of our own in places such as Chicago?
Updates: Ken Summers has an alternate poster for Florida. Heh. For more on what you can and (deny it as the Brady Bunch might for fundraising reasons) CAN'T, see my blogson Eric Scheie's post -- here. Update 2: Blogonomicon has a poster aimed at the FL criminals. Posted by Jeff Soyer at September 30, 2005 09:22 AM Comments
Typical lefty tactic. Let's burn down the house if we can't have things our way. You're exercising your rights as citizens to elect a legislature that reflects your standards and wishes? Well, that's fine, so long as you think the way we do. What's all this rubbish about being able to defend yourself? I think in this case, we're just going to have to hurt American businesses and individuals by poisoning your tourist industry, until you see the light. They're no different from the mafia. Let's make sure the blogosphere shines some light on these cockroaches. Posted by: Fox at September 30, 2005 09:35 AMBut Jeff! Gun control has worked in Chicago! http://www.saf.org/viewpr.asp?id=98 Posted by: Eric Scheie at September 30, 2005 10:40 AMThat's really good. How about the NRA put up posters warning against visiting Kalifornia too! Posted by: timmy at September 30, 2005 04:03 PMA few years ago there was a spate of car jackings in Florida. Nearly all of the cars targeted were rentals because the bad guys knew the tourists didn't/couldn't carry. They made the rental companies remove the bumper stickers. End of problem. Now the bad guys didn't know who was and who wasn't. Posted by: joated at September 30, 2005 04:21 PMJeff Snyder described it well in his Nation of Cowards essay.Nearly all of the gun control measures offered by Handgun Control, Inc. (HCI) and its ilk embody the same philosophy. They are founded on the belief that America's law-abiding gun owners are the source of the problem. With their unholy desire for firearms, they are creating a society awash in a sea of guns, thereby helping good boys go bad, and helping bad boys be badder. This laying of moral blame for violent crime at the feet of the law-abiding, and the implicit absolution of violent criminals for their misdeeds, naturally infuriates honest gun owners....No HCI campaign more clearly demonstrates the elitist beliefs underlying the campaign to eradicate gun ownership. Given the qualifications required of permit holders, HCI and the media can only believe that common, law-abiding citizens are seething cauldrons of homicidal rage, ready to kill to avenge any slight to their dignity, eager to seek out and summarily execute the lawless. Only lack of immediate access to a gun restrains them and prevents the blood from flowing in the streets. They are so mentally and morally deficient that they would mistake a permit to carry a weapon in self-defense as a state-sanctioned license to kill at will. Let it slide, the dim-wits have already progressed from hate to insanity. Wait, I am a little confused, as a resident of Florida I was a little excited when I first heard we could shoot Brits for no reason. You mean we can't shoot Brits for no reason? /sarcasm Posted by: Mike Hammer at October 1, 2005 05:40 PMExcellent. Posted by: Steven Malcolm Anderson at October 1, 2005 06:11 PMNo, Mike, dammit, you still need a reason to shoot Brits. The good news is "Because he's a Brit" is a qualifying reason. Posted by: Steve Skubinna at October 1, 2005 06:19 PM"Because he is a Brit" may be a qualifying reason, But you'd better double-check just to be sure that they're in season, Because we can no longer use the pretext that it's treason, And you're not in Texas where "He needed killin'"'s jury-pleasin'. Posted by: Acksiom at October 2, 2005 01:34 AMVery funny. Oddly this gets less funny once you think about how very true that Chicago poster is. Now if you had used Washington D.C. it would be down right frightening. Posted by: Nylarthotep at October 4, 2005 06:17 AMthe comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome.
